Who We Are:
The Chesterfield County Department of Mental Health Support Services is the single point of entry for public mental health, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorder services in Chesterfield County. The Medical Service Department is seeking a full-time Psychiatrist for medical and behavioral health to join our team of diverse professionals! Our Staff Psychiatrist will serve a case load of adults with multiple/ complex co-occurring Mental Health, Intellectual Disability and Substance Use Disorder diagnoses. This role is purely outpatient without calls or weekend schedules.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates are required to be Board Certified/ Board Eligible Psychiatrist with an active and valid license to practice medicine in the state of Virginia and possess a DEA number. Prior Community Services Board (CSB) experience preferred; Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) preferred; four years completion of residency training in Psychiatry from an accredited institution preferred.
Required knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge of the psychiatric medical field, including assessments, evaluations, psychopharmacology, psychiatric best practice, treatment and planning, and coordination of care; of considerable knowledge of and ability to deal with difficult and/or emergent psychiatric situations requiring immediate decisions in accordance with agency policies and procedures; of motivations, interests, attitudes and personal problems of persons with mental illness, emotional disturbance and/or developmental disabilities. Ability to exercise sound judgment and initiative in analyzing consumer-related problems and recommended solutions; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to utilize an electronic medical record (EHR) system; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to work with multi- disciplinary teams preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Conducts psychiatric assessments and evaluations that include history of present psychiatric illness, previous psychiatric treatment and/or hospitalization, physical and medical history, family psychiatric history, substance abuse history, social background and current mental status of the individual receiving services;
Provides diagnosis, makes treatment recommendations and medication follow-ups of assigned cases;
Completes required documentation to meet agency standards and requirements;
Provides consultation and/or coordination of care with staff, other agency providers, and other providers as needed;
Provides psychopharmacological services including medication evaluation and monitoring, and;
Performs other work as required.
Shift
Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
