As we expand, we're looking for a hands-on HR Manager to oversee daily human resources operations with a focus on benefits administration and supporting employees in an on-site capacity.

The HR Manager is the go-to person for day-to-day human resources operations, with a primary focus on employee benefits administration, payroll coordination, and HR compliance. This on-site role plays a vital part in fostering a supportive, people-centered work environment and ensuring the foundation's HR processes run smoothly and in alignment with California employment regulations.

The pay range for this role is:
70,000 - 100,000 USD per year (Office)

Position Overview
The HR Manager is the go-to person for day-to-day human resources operations, with a primary focus on employee benefits administration, payroll coordination, and HR compliance. This on-site role plays a vital part in fostering a supportive, people-centered work environment and ensuring the foundation's HR processes run smoothly and in alignment with California employment regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Benefits Administration
- Manage employee benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies
- Serve as the primary contact for benefits-related inquiries, claims, and issue resolution
- Oversee open enrollment processes and coordinate with vendors for accurate benefits delivery
HR Operations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in HR systems
- Coordinate payroll changes and communicate with payroll providers
- Track leave balances (PTO, sick leave) and ensure accurate documentation
- Ensure organizational compliance with federal and California-specific employment laws
Employee Relations
- Respond to employee questions, concerns, and requests in a supportive and professional manner
- Provide guidance on workplace policies and procedures
- Support managers with performance reviews, corrective actions, and employee relations matters
On-Site Support
- Serve as an on-site resource for employees and support day-to-day HR operations
- Coordinate onboarding, training sessions, and employee engagement activities
- Help foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture aligned with APF's mission
HR Compliance
- Prepare documentation for audits, internal reporting, and legal compliance
- Stay current on employment law changes and implement updates to ensure compliance
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 3-5 years of HR experience with an emphasis on benefits and compliance
- Working knowledge of California employment laws and HR best practices
- Experience with HRIS platforms and payroll systems (e.g., Rippling, Gusto, or similar)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport and trust
Preferred
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification (preferred but not required)
