Description
Under the general supervision of the County Surveyor, the Staff Surveyor performs advanced technical work, including field inspections, topographic surveys, and research in support of highway maintenance projects.

Special Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Compensation: Starting pay ranges from $41.10 to $44.39 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. Williams County provides generous benefits to full-time regular employees: paid sick and vacation leave, a fully paid health/dental/vision benefit plan for employees and dependents, term life insurance of $25,000, 100% contribution toward retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System, and 11 paid holidays each year. - Conducts field surveys and submits horizontal and vertical control information
- Supervises the work of Survey Technicians
- Processes topographic surveys using Civil 3D
- Collects field data; enters and updates data in Trimble Business Center (TBC)
- Performs field checks and staking of construction projects
- Researches easements, documents, and landowner information
- Responds to requests for maps and records
- Assists with paving and construction project inspections
- Communicates with contractors regarding construction projects
- Maintains accurate daily diaries detailing construction activities
- Ensures survey vehicle is stocked with equipment to complete daily tasks
- Ensures vehicles and equipment are well-maintained; reports any damage or issues immediately
- Follows all traffic laws and safety regulations on roadways and work sites, reports safety hazards and traffic problems
- Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.
Typical Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Surveying, Engineering, or related field AND two (2) years of surveying or transportation construction work experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's License or equivalent
- Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening

- Work is performed in an office setting and an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather
- Some work is performed on construction sites with exposure to uneven ground, loud noises, chemicals, and construction equipment
- Must be able to lift/carry 50lbs
