This role oversees mechanical and electrical maintenance tasks for all equipment, including boilers, gas turbines, generators, and fuel handling apparatus. The manager establishes guidelines, procedures, and goals for safe, reliable, and efficient equipment repair and maintenance, ensuring compliance and optimal resource utilization for electricity and steam generation.

- Possess knowledge of material procurement, outage preparation and coordination, and equipment quality assurance, while providing guidance and control for the daily management of the stations maintenance functions and promoting the work management process.
- Work closely with the different groups in Central Engineering when necessary and oversee the installation of new equipment.
- Guarantee design basis compliance, steer root cause assessments and engineering evaluations, guide corrective action programs, and effectively communicate procedural changes, lessons learned, and engineering plans and specifications to supervisors to ensure adequate maintenance of steam and electric generation components.
- Review and update existing Steam Operations procedures with the supervisors and create and implement new guidelines and practices where necessary.
- Perform appropriate managerial functions in the interview and job placement process of new and transferring personnel, ensure timely action on labor issues, and promote a positive work ethic by recommending appropriate training and providing constructive feedback to enhance personnel technical and personal development.
- Develop the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) annual expense budget and track monthly expenses.
- Possess knowledge and experience with Oracle (Project One and associated) Business Intelligence Applications, cost management (budget development/planning), and the Maximo work management system.
- Foster a customer service focus among supervisors, mechanics, planners, electricians, and engineering inspectors while emphasizing professionalism, honesty, concern, courtesy, excellence, and teamwork.
- Oversee the coordination of maintenance activities between the location and ancillary departments and/or contractors, and review routine maintenance requirements to establish improvement measures for effective and reliable operations.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials for routine maintenance and planned overhauls.
- Proficient in contractor oversight, supply chain management, and procurement and purchasing practices.
- Improve team morale and productivity, understand company rules and grievance processes, manage disciplinary actions, and evaluate subordinates' performance in a timely manner.
- Perform quality control reviews, ensure compliance with environmental regulations and program procedures for Steam Operations Generating Stations, and provide direction for troubleshooting, repair efforts, and restoration of equipment or control circuits.
- Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree and 8 years experience in an operating area or
- Master's Degree and 6 years experience in an operating area.
- Minimum 5 years prior direct or indirect supervisory experience, required. Required
- Ability to interpret and dissect vendor and operating reports and quotes, required. Required
- Must possess strong leadership, communication, and relational skills required along with the ability to work as part of a team, required. Required
- Knowledge of steam generating systems; steam/power utilities and steam distribution systems, required. Required
- Thorough working knowledge of the General Instructions Governing Work on System Electrical Equipment (Rule Book), Steam Operations Procedures, safe work practices and procedures, operating orders & work permits and use of appropriate personal protective equipment, required. Required
- Strong oral, written, presentation, and communication skills, required. Required
- Comprehend and interpret engineering drawings (including schematics, one-line diagrams, P&IDs and functional logic diagrams), required. Required
- Working knowledge of the Operating Orders and Work Permits process as well as safe work practices and personal protective equipment necessary to work in a generating station, required. Required
- Working knowledge of the Work Management Systems (e.g. Maximo, DataSplice, AutoLog, COSRS, Oracle Business Intelligence), preferred. Required
- Supervisory experience in a line organization along with a familiarization of employee relations, preferred. Required
- Driver's License Required
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to carry tools and materials when climbing ladders and scaffolds, and entering confined spaces
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel within O&R and CECONY service territory, as needed.
