SUMMARY
The Strategic Mechanical (System) Engineer provides expert-level technical support for the operation, maintenance, testing, and modification of assigned systems and programs. Reviews performance of assigned systems, components, and programs and recommends changes regarding operation, maintenance, or testing. Monitors and audits overall compliance programs, performs system and component trending, performs system walk-downs, performs corrective action management, monitors and maintains the preventive maintenance program for assigned systems or programs, and makes recommendations and implements changes as needed to the items described above. The System Engineer provides support as the technical conscience and reliability "Champion" for the station on their assigned system or program to ensure that equipment remains reliable and always ready to support nuclear safety and plant generation. The System Engineer position resides within the System Engineering Department and interacts extensively with the other Engineering Departments, Operations, Maintenance, Work Control, and Chemistry.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology. (Required)
One (1) year Turbine/Generator experience at all levels (preferred)
Master's degree in technical discipline (Preferred)
Without a degree, five (5) years of experience in any one or combination of the following is required:
1) Nuclear Plant Operations, 2) Nuclear Plant Maintenance, or 3) Military Nuclear Operations or Maintenance
EXPERIENCE
Experience will determine the position/title and are listed below in the POSITION section.
Previous experience in field engineering applications in support of maintenance is a plus
Previous experience in monitoring or developing preventive maintenance for mechanical/electrical/instrumentation or control systems is a plus
Previous experience in monitoring performance trends on equipment is a plus
Previous experience communicating and advocating for appropriate system repairs or modifications is a plus

Not Applicable, no certifications are required or preferred.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops, implements, and administers assigned programs. Provides technical support for the operation, maintenance, testing, and modification of assigned systems or programs.
Reviews performance of assigned systems and components and recommends changes regarding operation, maintenance, or testing.
Prepares/reviews/approves engineering documentation as necessary (e.g.: calculations, specifications, analysis, drawings, evaluations, etc.).
Performs equipment cause evaluations of plant failures and identifies corrective actions as necessary to ensure strong equipment reliability
Utilizes various forms of software to proactively trend for incipient conditions to prevent equipment failure.
Optimizes reliability vs financial effectiveness by ownership and advocacy of planned maintenance scope.
Prepares/reviews complex safety evaluations and significant hazards review for plant repairs and conditions.
Reviews and evaluates industry documentation and event reports for relevant application to STP and identifies appropriate corrective actions.
Coordinates work efforts within engineering, operations, and maintenance or external vendors to collect and interpret data, and implement recommended resolutions.
Provide input to the at-power and outage schedules, including prioritization, logic work grouping, etc for work being scheduled.
Periodically observe Maintenance work/testing and Operations that are being performed on key system components.
Perform bi-weekly system walk downs to maintain a current awareness of system condition/performance and to obtain data for performance monitoring depending on system or program assigned to support.
Systematically adjust preventive and predictive maintenance activities based on feedback from a variety of sources, including maintenance craft personnel, corrective, predictive and PM results (including PM as found condition codes), test results, vendor information, EPRI templates operating experience, equipment history and system walk downs.
Champion major maintenance and modifications that impact Plant Reliability or Generation and ensure these items are taken through the funding process
Evaluate proposed modifications to assigned systems or components, including cost/benefit analysis, and make recommendations on which modifications should be pursued
Provide engineering expertise when required to support complex plant issues or requests for assistance from other organizations.
Attend and complete Station, department or division required training as necessary for the position and as directed by your immediate supervision
Acts as "CHAMPION" for plant systems. Advocates system or program health with an emphasis on improving overall plant performance and reliability

Accept ERO position as needed and be able to meet the time response requirements
Accept outage position as needed

WORKING CONDITIONS
Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed
Support rotational engineering duty. Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week
Frequent field inspections in a plant environment and in all kinds of weather conditions. May require working outdoors and at night. Activities will involve climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
Travel may be required for business trips and training depending on the position
