Operating under detailed instructions and review, the purpose of this position is to provide the essential technical knowledge and perform the work listed. This role has the responsibility to promote Fluor's competitiveness within the global marketplace by delivering quality services of unmatched value and technical competence. The purpose of this position is to support the Lead Engineer as well as lead the design team as they work on design and perform 3D layout of moderate to complex scope.
As a Structural Designer Supervisor you will be:
Working closely and openly with the Lead Engineer and other disciplines in a team environment.
Coordinating, assigning work and giving guidance to the designers on the project.
Ensuring schedule is being adhered to and deliverables are being issued on time.
Checking work done by other Designers when required.
Reviewing drawings and vendor equipment documentation from other disciplines for compliance with project requirements, and actively seek discrepancy resolution.
Adhering to industry codes and standards as well as department practices and procedures.
Performing bulk material take-off analysis and tabulations.
Other duties as assigned by the Lead Engineer.
Basic Job Requirements
Accredited two (2) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and twenty (20) years of work-related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to twenty-two (22) years if non-degreed; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements
Ability to manage progress and performance of the structural team and to assign work to meet those milestones.
Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines
Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials
Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and electronic presentation programs
Preferred Qualifications
Three (3) to five (5) years of lead designer experience in heavy industrial projects. Mining and metals projects an asset.
Five (5) to ten (10) years of S3D modelling experience. Experience with Smartsketch an asset.
Five (5) to ten (10) years of experience with other CADD software such as, but not limited to, AutoCAD, Microstation and ProStructures.
Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the team including but not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
Superior knowledge of applicable standards and relevant technical codes with ability to learn and apply knowledge of any new Canadian codes and standards.
Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
Advanced knowledge and demonstrated experience of structural design concepts and principles.
Solid problem-solving skills through sound judgement and innovation.
Advanced Computer and software skills to include the use of spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and electronic presentation programs.
Practical field experience is an asset
