Job Description
McCormick Taylor is seeking an experienced Structural/Bridge Engineer (Structural Engineer III) with a minimum of 6 years of bridge design experience to join our Columbia, SC or Charleston, SC office location. The primary duties of the Structural Engineer III are to perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations for various transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and SCDOT and NCDOT specifications and standards. Qualified candidates should have a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas related to bridge design; geotechnical/foundation design, substructure design, superstructure design, and retaining and noise walls. This position will also provide the opportunity to develop and lead the regional SC and NC structural engineering group.
Performing complex structural planning analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects
Perform detailed structural calculations in support of design and rehabilitation for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls
Develop structural drawings, construction details and geometry layouts
Prepare quantities and engineering cost estimates
Provide internal quality control to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability
Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI's) as necessary
Assist Manager with business development and SC/NC project growth
Opportunity to develop and lead the regional structural engineering group.
Opportunity to manage projects
Work will be in a hybrid in-office/work-from-home environment, with some field work and travel required
Job Requirements
Minimum 6 years of structural engineering experience on transportation projects in South Carolina and North Carolina
B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure required
Experience in all aspects of bridge design and bridge rehabilitation
Experience in load rating
Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software including a thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and SCDOT and NCDOT Bridge Design standards
Bridge inspection experience and NBIS Team Leader qualifications a plus
Proficient with MicroStation
OpenRoads and OpenBridge experience beneficial
Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic design beneficial
Possess strong oral and written communication skill
Must be able to independently manage project tasks
