Nexus Engineering Group is seeking a skilled Structural Substation Engineer to support the design and analysis of structural components for high-voltage substations. This role involves working closely with engineering teams to ensure that substation structures, including steel support structures, foundations, and equipment platforms, are safe, code-compliant, and optimized for performance and cost.

Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis and design of substation components such as steel structures, foundations, and equipment supports.
- Develop calculations, drawings, and specifications in accordance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASCE, ACI, NESC, IEEE, and local building codes).
- Review and interpret geotechnical reports and integrate findings into foundation designs.
- Prepare structural design packages for substation projects ranging from 12kV to 500kV.
- Coordinate with project teams including electrical and structural engineers to ensure interdisciplinary design integration.
- Provide technical support during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits as needed.
- Assist in cost estimation and project scheduling related to structural scope.
- Ensure adherence to quality assurance processes and participate in peer reviews.
- Stay current on industry trends, tools, and regulatory requirements related to structural engineering for substations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master's preferred).
- P.E. license required; S.E. license required for projects in Illinois.
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably in power delivery or substation design.
- Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STADD.Pro, RISA, or SAP2000.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and MATHCAD.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation (required).
- Familiarity with AISC, ACI, and ASCE 7 design codes.
- Understanding of Advance Steel and Revit is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with clients and internal teams.
