Pacific Northern Gas Ltd. (PNG), a subsidiary of TriSummit Utilities Inc., owns and operates natural gas processing, transmission and distribution systems in British Columbia's lower Peace, west central, and north coast regions. PNG's western transmission system extends from the Enbridge gas transmission system north of Prince George and along the Highway 16 corridor to Terrace and then onto the port communities of Kitimat and Prince Rupert, providing gas transportation and service to twelve communities and a number of industrial facilities. In the Province's northeast, Pacific Northern Gas (N.E.) Ltd., a subsidiary of PNG, provides gas processing, transmission and distribution service in the Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and Tumbler Ridge areas.
Reporting to the Manager, Operations West, this position is located in our Terrace/ Smithers office. The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the construction-related aspects of assigned projects, ensuring they are executed efficiently, safely, and within budget. The Superintendent will focus heavily on project planning during the winter months, while the construction season will require up to 75% travel to project sites.

Reporting to the Manager, Operations West, this position is located in our Terrace/ Smithers office. The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the construction-related aspects of assigned projects, ensuring they are executed efficiently, safely, and within budget. The Superintendent will focus heavily on project planning during the winter months, while the construction season will require up to 75% travel to project sites.
What You Will Do:
- Manage construction-related aspects of assigned projects or programs.
- Collaborate with contractors and internal staff to efficiently plan and complete construction work.
- Advise the Manager of Project Delivery on construction strategies and contractual terms.
- Ensure that health, safety, and environmental (HSE) governance, including HSE metrics, audits, and governance reporting, is maintained for all construction/project work. With support from PNG HSE leadership.
- Execute tasks in alignment with approved project execution plans and PNG specifications.
- Actively coordinate construction activities with applicable field crews.
- Lead and coordinate objectives related to cost, schedule, quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Evaluate contractor resource efficiency and provide guidance on construction operations.
- Provide direction to Inspectors as needed for the completion of construction activities.
- Ensure all necessary permits, procedures, and documentation are on-site and reviewed by internal/contractor staff before commencing work.
- Submit all turnover documents to the Integrity Dig Program for quality assurance and record retention.
- Provide final field approval for all change orders and RFIs.
- Review and approve daily work plans, addressing any work stoppages or scheduling adjustments as needed.
- Communicate scope, cost, and schedule updates to the project team.
- Verify training and qualifications of all field workers before their start (e.g., contractor orientation, crane operator certifications, coating and welding qualifications).
- Provide direction and supervision of contract inspection and field resources.
- Manage material logistics, including inventory control of repair sleeves, pipe materials, and other construction-related components.
- Review and track construction metrics for cost analysis and future estimating purposes (e.g., access length, excavation duration and volume, trench box use).
- Review and sign off on weekly Labor, Equipment, and Material (LEM) reports.
- Provide input for Annual Contractor Performance evaluations.
- Influence and lead contractors on various objectives involving cost, scope, quality, safety, and environmental considerations.
- Work with the Field Engineer on screening and planning future activities, such as access, brushing, and construction methodology.
Seasonal Work Expectations:
- Winter (Off-Season): Heavy focus on planning, pre-construction preparation, contractor coordination, and strategy development.
- Construction Season: Up to 75% travel to project sites for hands-on supervision, coordination, and execution of construction activities.
What You Will Need to Succeed:
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in construction supervision or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, contract management, and safety regulations.
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate field teams effectively.
- Experience with construction cost analysis, scheduling, and project planning.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments, with flexibility for extensive travel during the construction season.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.

Salary Range:
- $104,509 - 122,952 depending on background and experience.
