VDOT's Northern Virginia District is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Maintenance Superintendent in our Manassas Area Headquarters in Prince William County. This position is responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and operating all aspects of the Area Headquarters maintenance program in compliance with established schedules and budgets.

Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to:
Ability to maintain accurate, up-to-date records for personnel, equipment and materials.
Knowledge of inventory management practices.
Knowledge of management principles, methods and procedures.
Ability to read and interpret specifications, standards, federal MUTCD and other related guidelines and memoranda.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
Skill in organizing and planning work within a budget and developing cost estimates.
Ability to research problems, recommend solutions and make sound decisions.
Considerable knowledge of roadway construction and maintenance, equipment operation, materials, and work methods.
Ability to analyze data to create and maintain reports and records.
Ability to develop and implement short and long-range work schedules and goals.
Ability to supervise, evaluate and train staff.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and to work well with others on team and group projects.
Skill in reading standard roadway and bridge construction plans and recordkeeping.
Skill in providing and promoting good customer service to internal and external customers.
Knowledge of business principles related to inventory control and procurement.

Minimum Qualifications
Valid driver's license.
Demonstrated ability to organize and plan work within a budget develop cost estimates and manage inventory.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.
Skill in reading road and bridge sketches.
Experience supervising staff.
Ability to schedule, plan and monitor work activities.
Considerable experience with highway construction and maintenance equipment, materials and work methods, practices and procedures.
Ability to gather data, maintain accurate and up to date records, conduct research, and create reports and correspondence for personnel, equipment and materials.

Additional Considerations
Experience leading emergency operations activities.
Experience in maintenance and construction of roads. Supervisory experience.
DEQ Erosion and Sediment Control certification
A combination of training, experience, or education in Business Administration, Transportation Operations or related field desired.
Experience managing performance and applying progressive discipline.
Experience planning, developing and managing a budget and monitoring inventory.

This position requires a fingerprint based Criminal History Background Check, DMV Record Check and Work History Verification with references. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. H1B VISA Sponsorship is not available. VDOT utilizes a market-based pay program, which has been approved by DHRM. Therefore, advertised rates of pay may or may not align with the Commonwealth pay bands.
This position is designated as essential to emergency operations and employees are required to work in emergencies and severe weather outside normal work hours, to include nights, weekends, and holidays to ensure the safety of the traveling public. Assignments may vary based on the business needs.
Approved Safety Shoes are required. There is an opportunity for reimbursement.
Candidates may also be required to complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
May be required to operate or work in the vicinity of devices containing radioactive materials and emitting low levels of ionizing radiation.
Position requires unrestricted mobility, including, at times, unrestricted mobility in irregular terrain, working at heights and in confined spaces, making visual observations.
Ability to stand for long periods of time; the ability to work in a variety of environments affected by, but not limited to, such elements as dust, vapors, heat, and moisture.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
