Overview
The Superintendent - Parks and Recreation oversees the implementation of the strategic initiatives of the Director for the Parks and Recreation Department. Manages accreditation, performance management, comprehensive and strategic planning of the park system, park land dedication, and other priorities and goals of the Parks and Recreation Board.
Essential Functions
1 Manages, monitors, oversees, and facilitates programs and all decisions affecting various real estate developments throughout the City impacting the Parks and Recreation Department; manages all revenues and dedication funds; works to identify various land parcels to grow park system.
2 Participates in the implementation and facilitation of short-, mid- and long-term goals and objectives; works with the Director and other managers to strategically plan the operations of the department.
3 Manages, administers, and oversees the ongoing CAPRA Accreditation Process through the National Recreation and Park Association; performs professional and detailed analysis and strategic management to meet standards of excellence.
4 Works with other managers, supervisors, and Directors to handle quality assurance, performance measurement, and process, procedural, and protocol improvement; collaborates, communicates, and makes decisions that affect Department.
5 Engages with the Director and Park and Recreation Board department priorities; translates directives into special projects, and department studies.
6 Provides quality customer service by communicating effectively with individuals both internally and externally; coordinates and participates in all aspects of Park and Recreation planning and operation; responds to issues or concerns timely and professionally.
7 Represents the program area at meetings, hearings, trials, conferences, and seminars or on boards, panels, and committees; testifies at hearings, trials, and legislative meetings as appropriate.
8 Performs any and all other work as required or assigned.
Knowledge and Skills
1 Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to parks and recreation activities.
2 City policies, procedures, and regulations.
3 Knowledge of department and organization Safety rules and precautions/occupational hazards.
4 Knowledge of strategic planning and long-range initiatives.
5 Ability to devise solutions to administrative problems and to plan, assign, delegate responsibility.
6 Principles of effective program planning, development, administration and evaluation.
7 Research and data organization and analysis methods.
8 Techniques of effective report preparation and presentation.
9 Accreditation standards and expectations.
10 Ability to communicate effectively, at all levels, both orally and in writing.
11 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.
12 Ability to prepare administrative and statistical reports, schedules, statements, and correspondence.
13 Principles and practices of marketing, advertising, promotions and customer service.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience
7 years of strategic planning and project management and 4 years of supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certifications
Texas Driver's License
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or other related field.
Equivalency
Salary Range
$93,914.91 - $117,393.63

Salary Range
