The Del Norte County Public Health Branch is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Supervising Certified Public Health Nurse. This position is classified as full-time.
Under general direction, plans, supervises, organizes, coordinates, and reviews the work of public health nursing and support staff in performing comprehensive public health nursing services and a variety of nursing care services; performs public health nursing program development and supervision; provides responsible staff support to management in areas of expertise; and performs related duties as assigned.
This class is distinguished from the Certified Public Health Nurse by the staff and clinic supervisory responsibilities assigned to the Supervising Certified Public Health Nurse. Incumbents assume an active leadership role in program planning, development, implementation, supervision and evaluation and are responsible for an assigned public health care team that provides health services in a variety of settings. This class is distinguished from the Director of Public Health Nursing in that the latter has overall management responsibility for all public health nursing programs and activities.

- Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of assigned staff responsible for the provision of public health nursing care services, including health assessments, case management, care coordination, instruction, counseling and referral services, and education to high risk and special populations for the prevention and mitigation of diseases and adverse health conditions; performs professional nursing duties in support of public health programs.
- Assists with planning, implementing, and evaluating public health nursing programs and services; coordinates program development and planning according to scope of work; directs the provision of services including direct and indirect services; and evaluates program quality and effectiveness of services; provides recommendations for program modifications and improvements.
- Participates in the selection of personnel and provides for their training and professional development; monitors work load and productivity.
- Evaluates performance and facilitates decisions on difficult public health nursing problems.
- Maintains established standards of public health nursing and ensures services are rendered in conformance with policy and procedural guidelines.
- Assists in the development of protocols and updates procedure and protocol manuals.
- Conducts the full range of Certified Public Health Nurse duties on more complex cases; performs a variety of nursing and coordinative duties in the provision of public health services to special populations and high risk, high acuity clients and their families to enhance the health and safety of the community; treats and prevents the spread of communicable diseases; addresses prenatal, child, and adolescent health care concerns; identifies and prevents child and elder abuse and neglect; provides resources for healthy living choices for the populations served; and participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- Provides public health nursing services to remote areas of the county.
- Assesses and provides quality and conformance on nursing assessment and treatment programs to meet State and Federal requirements.
- Responds to public health emergencies and disasters as needed, utilizing the nursing skills authorized under their professional scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications

- Equivalent to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a National League for Nursing accredited four-year college or university or other educational standards as set by the California State Board of Registered Nursing, and
- Two (2) years of public health nursing experience or its equivalent; or, when possessing required license/s, a combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Possession of a valid California Registered Nurse license issued by the California State Board of Registered Nursing.
- Possession of a valid California State Public Health Nursing certificate.
Special Requirements:
