TITLE: Supervisor - Pre-K and Elementary Curriculum and Instruction

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certified as administrator/supervisor with 092 endorsement
  • CT State Certification (Elementary, K-6) required; K-12 Remedial Reading/Remedial Language Arts 102 endorsement and/or K-12 Reading & Language Arts Consultant 097 endorsement strongly preferred;
  • Master's degree in curriculum and development, elementary education, reading and language arts, or related field required;
  • Strong background in literacy and writing;
  • Knowledge of effective literacy instructional strategies, assessment tools and researched based "best practices";
  • Excellent collaboration, interpersonal and communication skills - including written, verbal and conflict resolution proficiency;
  • Effective training and presentation skills;
  • Experience with assessments, data collection and analysis;
  • Knowledge of and experience in effective leadership, curriculum development and implementation;
  • Effective leadership and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively;

    SUPERVISES: Elementary Instructional Science/Social Studies Coach, Elementary Instructional Mathematics Coach

    JOB GOAL:
    To use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational needs of each student.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administers to the needs of all Elementary Schools and the Early Childhood Learning Center.
  • Evaluates and supervises district Elementary Science/Social Studies and Mathematics instructional coaches.
  • Assumes leadership for the literacy instructional program and pre-k and elementary curriculum development in cooperation with the administrative and professional staff.
  • Participates in the staff recruiting and hiring process.
  • Provides orientation of staff new to the District.
  • Assists Supervisor of Professional Development & Evaluation with the placement of student teachers and interns in cooperation with building principals.
  • Supports principals in the development and implementation of school improvement plans.
  • Develops and oversees administration and analysis of curriculum-based assessments.
  • Participates in professional activities such as workshops, conferences, parent/teacher meetings and activities of other pertinent professional organizations.
  • Serves as leader of the pre-k and elementary-level English Language Arts Curriculum Committee.
  • Serves as a member of the East Hartford District Literacy Leadership team.
  • Leads the development, review, and revision of East Hartford Public School's pre-k and elementary English Language Arts curriculum.
  • Coordinates with and shares ideas with the District's secondary curriculum supervisors.
  • Serves as a direct liaison to East Hartford's Secondary Curriculum Supervisor for English; collaborates and works to align (K-12) goals and initiatives regularly.
  • Maintains curricular and instructional resources for pre-k and elementary literacy current for educator reference on the district's network and/or website as appropriate.
  • Oversees all pre-k and elementary literacy instruction, assessment, intervention, curriculum, and district improvement planning.
  • Collaborates with Supervisor of Professional Development & Evaluation to plan, schedule, roll out, and provide pre-k and elementary professional development needs.
  • Oversees and provides support for elementary Gifted & Talented program.
  • Plans, schedules, and oversees all building-based coach meetings, trainings and work steps.
  • Collaborates with building-based coaches (instructional and technology) to support instructional action steps in response to data analysis and district instructional priorities.
  • Oversees budgeting, inventory, planning, and ordering of pre-k and elementary instructional and assessment materials.
  • Serves as primary line of communication for completion, strategic planning, and improvement planning with Assistant Superintendent and other administrators.
  • Assumes such other functions as may be determined by supervisor.


  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
    Salary and work year to be established by the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Education and EHEASU

    EVALUATION:
    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff.
