The Opportunity

This position works out of our Rapid Molecular Diagnostics (RMDx) Headquarters in Lake Forest, IL supporting our Toxicology business unit. Abbott's rapid diagnostic tests allow healthcare professionals and their patients to get same-day results. For healthcare workers, this means they can diagnose and advise their patients in a single office visit. For patients, quicker results mean earlier treatment, less anxiety, less time, and money spent on repeat doctor visits and a faster return to good health.

The Supply Chain Specialist provides demand forecasting, production planning/scheduling, inventory management, and distribution support to maintain production operations and customer product availability. Under limited supervision, develops, maintains and communicates finished goods and sub-assembly supply plans over the long-term planning horizon. The Supply Chain Specialist will provide direction on manufacturing schedules for assigned products. This role will also be responsible for working with commercial to develop a global demand plan that follows the S&OP process. Works cross-functionally with purchasing, production, commercial, engineering, quality and other teams as necessary to resolve scheduling issues. Manages manufacturing schedules to achieve product availability and line fill rate goals, as well as other key performance indicators.

What You'll Work On
  • Analyze planning requirements and initiate appropriate action to support the master schedule or independent demands.
  • Schedule Manufacturing Operations to ensure availability of items under planner's control with while efficiently utilizing facilities.
  • Perform system maintenance and updates to ensure database integrity for planning fields and files.
  • Perform analysis and provide recommendations to management regarding demand or supply assumptions. Generates reports of moderate complexity and performs data analysis to proactively revise plans or resolve issues.
  • Recommend procurement strategies for internal and external supplies compatible with economic, supply and quality goals.
  • Manage material flow from external and internal suppliers through manufacturing channels to achieve maximum production efficiency, minimizing waste and impacts to customers.
  • Understands and applies manufacturing systems, interpolates manufacturing requirements.
  • Responsible for estimating future demand by defining, tracking and measuring market elements and determining what inventories are necessary to facilitate approval of demand plans and improved category and/or channel decision-making.
  • Monitor inventories and act as appropriate. Implements inventory policies set by Supply Chain management to manage finished goods and manufactured subassembly inventory.
  • Minimize scrap/distressed inventory through efficient management of on hand inventory, monitoring short, dated stock and prioritizing consumption with commercial counterparts to reduce scrap exposure over time.
  • Develops and provides a detailed plan for finished goods and subassemblies which supports the top-level approved build plans, assuring quantity and mix are clearly communicated to manufacturing.
  • Reviews forecast data, backorder reports and commodity/purchasing updates, including early warning signs, to prioritize and expedite manufacturing jobs to prevent or clear backorders.
  • Reviews and updates material master data on regular basis to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manages safety stock in partnership with purchasing.
  • Partners with purchasing, finance and material handling to minimize and dispose of slow moving, obsolete and expiring inventory.
  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree: BA or BS preferred and 1-2 years operations distribution experience, or directly relevant technical experience sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge typically associated with the degree and experience requirement.


Preferred Qualifications
  • 1 year experience working in a medical device manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous operations experience and exposure to manufacturing materials principles and concepts preferred.
  • APICS or other planning related certification preferred.
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

The base pay for this position is
$60,000.00 - $120,000.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
