Job Summary
The Superintendent of Maintenance will oversee the day-to-day operations of a garage and/or other vehicle maintenance facilities to ensure maximum productivity in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of vehicles.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Schedule the maintenance of buses and other MBTA vehicles and equipment under his/her control.
- Implement preventive and corrective maintenance and major repairs.
- Conduct audits of the maintenance and repair operations while verifying quality of workmanship and implement corrective action when necessary.
- Establish work schedules and type of employees necessary for the operation of an efficient maintenance and repair facility.
- Maintain departmental records of employees in assigned area.
- Prepare and present reports, summaries, cost estimates and other maintenance related information as requested.
- Ensure budgetary goals are met and that all work is performed in a timely cost-effective manner.
- Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
- Respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours, seven (7) days per week.
- Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and assist at emergencies and events and/or transport crews or equipment as needed.
- Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.
- Six (6) years of experience in bus/transportation fleet equipment repair and maintenance.
- Related experience in a supervisory capacity.
- Effective organizational, analytical, multi-tasking and time management skills.
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel, database, or PeopleSoft applications.
- Excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
- Be available to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
- Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
- The ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce.
- A valid driver's license in accordance with M BTA policy.
- Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Permit with general knowledge, air brakes, and passenger endorsements prior to filling this position.
