Job Title: Surgical Technologist
Job Specialty: General/Ortho/Urology
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day; 0630-1700 x3 days, 1100-1900 x1 day with call 1900-0700, 48-hour weekend call every 5th weekend. Holiday call as needed.
Guaranteed Hours: 40
Experience: Minimum experience in orthopedic, general, and urology procedures is required.
License: BLS required
Certifications: CST preferred
Must-Have: Knowledge of aseptic technique; must be within 45-minute callback time from the hospital for on-call duty.
Job Description:
- Apply surgical technology skills to assist in providing patient care in the surgical suite while maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ensure quality patient care during operative procedures and maintain vigil over the sterile field.
- Possess thorough knowledge of aseptic techniques and their application.
- Assist in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Assist the Registered Nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and proper disposition of all specimens.
- Assist with all aspects of room turnover in accordance with department policy and procedure.
- Monitor surgical supplies for sterility prior to use to ensure judicious use, accurate documentation and submission of charges.
- Monitor and document completion of sterilization activities.
- Attend in-services and staff meetings, stay informed about current department-related issues, and participate in the Performance Improvement Process.
- Participate in educational opportunities to increase competency and meet personal needs and goals.
- Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and standards related to surgical technology.
This role involves working in an environment with occasional intermittent noise and exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, and chemicals. Physical demands require walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, squatting, kneeling, and standing for lengthy periods. The ability to lift and support 35 pounds is necessary.
