SVP Construction Erection All Risk (EAR) Product Leadership

Job Summary:
The EAR Product Leader within Chubb North America's Inland Marine and Property Tower will play a critical role in supporting our North American underwriting team by coordinating underwriting strategy, technical training and underwriting team development as well as direct engagement in the underwriting process, primarily through referral activity. This position will initially focus on developing and enhancing the effectiveness of our underwriting processes in the EAR segment of our Construction/Builders Risk business, including but not limited to classes of business such as renewable energy, utility construction, liquified natural gas plants and technical manufacturing construction classes such as pharmaceuticals. The candidate will be responsible for best underwriting practices across our North America Inland Marine tower in these construction classes and will also coordinate with our Property and Natural Resources underwriting teams handling this type of business where appropriate. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of Builders Risk underwriting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Support and Guidance:
    • Serve as a key technical and operational resource for the North America Inland Marine underwriting teams, offering expertise and guidance on complex risk assessments and underwriting decisions.
    • Develop guidance and strategy on risk selection, pricing strategies, and coverage terms.
    • Provide insight and review of coverage form wordings for staff to ensure wording meets Chubb requirements.
    • Provide leadership to the Inland Marine unit in development and documentation of processes and underwriting guidelines specific to the classes of business within the scope of the role.
  • Training and Development:
    • Work with business leaders to develop programs for underwriting staff, focusing on improving technical skills, product knowledge, and insights on emerging industry trends.
    • Mentor underwriters to foster development and enhance overall team performance.
  • Process Improvement and Efficiency:
    • Lead initiatives aimed at streamlining underwriting operations and improving the efficiency of processes relating to Inland Marine Builders Risk EAR business.
    • Assist with development and maintaining underwriting guidelines, tools, and resources tailored to Builders Risk EAR specifications.
  • Data Analytics and Reporting:
    • Analyze portfolio performance, risk exposure, and underwriting results, providing insights and strategic recommendations to enhance profitability.
    • Utilize data analytics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the North America EAR portfolio.
  • Collaboration with Stakeholders:
    • Collaborate with other internal departments, including actuarial, claims, and risk management, to ensure a comprehensive approach to underwriting EAR business.
    • Facilitate communication between underwriting, sales, and executive teams to align strategy and maximize business opportunities.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management:
    • Ensure that underwriting practices comply with industry regulations and corporate guidelines, maintaining the integrity of the underwriting process.
    • Assist in audits, compliance reviews, and the development of action plans to address any identified gaps.
  • Documentation and Best Practices:
    • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including underwriting guidelines, process maps, and best practices specific to Builders Risk EAR business.
    • Stay abreast of industry developments and innovations, ensuring that team practices reflect the latest standards.


  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Insurance, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification preferred (e.g., CPCU, AIC).
    • 15+ years of experience in Builders Risk EAR underwriting, with national portfolio management responsibility experience. Ideal candidate will also have broad experience underwriting various types of risks within the EAR umbrella.
    • Strong technical knowledge of Builders Risk insurance products, underwriting standards, and risk assessment methodologies.
    • Proven experience in process improvement, data analysis, and developing training programs.
    • Advanced proficiency in underwriting software and analytics tools, as well as strong Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

    The pay range for the role is $230,000 to $280,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors.
