About you and the role:
The SVP Head of Investment Accounting has overall accountability for:
- Day-to-day oversight of the complete monthly, quarterly and annual investment accounting financial close and reporting cycle for about $20 billion investment portfolio
- Driving process improvements through team leadership, process automation and implementation of effective technology
- Developing infrastructure to provide detailed analysis of portfolio movements and communicate those to key stakeholders
- Maintaining a prioritization and resource model that allows for simultaneous execution of financial close and analysis processes, onboarding of new asset classes and execution of projects
- Partnering with stakeholders to drive process automation and to foster an environment of continuous process improvement
This position will work closely with the Chief Investment Officer and Investment Management Department to provide analytical insights that will be helpful in managing the investment portfolio. In addition, this position will work closely with the Chief Accounting Officer, SVP Head of Accounting and Reporting and regional finance departments to provide timely, accurate and complete information for internal and external reporting purposes.
What you will be doing:
Key Accountabilities
Act as the primary liaison with other departments within the organization such as Investment Management, Treasury and Risk
- Provide technical investment accounting guidance for multiple investment types including but not limited to: limited partnerships, private placements, structured securities, corporate bonds and derivatives
- Oversight of the timely close process for investment bookings under the U.S. GAAP basis of accounting across all regions
- Timely review of supporting schedules used for and disclosures included in the groups quarterly 10Q, annual 10K, quarterly BSCR and quarterly Solvency II reporting to ensure accuracy, completeness and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Responsible for investment accounting related materials included in communications to rating agencies, investment managers, both internal and external, and the group and local board of directors
- Ensure compliance with all Sarbanes-Oxley requirements in relation to investment accounting, providing relevant information to internal and external auditors during the quarterly and annual review process
- Responsible for the effective and scalable use of highly motivated and competent professionals
- Manage the effective use and integration of investment accounting systems while supporting the broader Finance Change initiatives
-Responsible for coaching, developing, and motivating direct reports. Responsibilities include but are not limited to recruitment and selection; employee appraisals and proactively addressing employee grievance and performance issues.It is important that these duties are carried out in accordance with Company policies and practices and in conjunction with HR.
- In addition to the above key responsibilities, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as the Company may reasonably require.
What you will bring:
- Minimum of 10 years experience in investment accounting with a minimum of 7 years experience managing an accounting or finance team
- Qualified accountant (CA, CPA, CMA, CGA or ACA)
- Worked with various investment types managed by multiple custodian and asset managers including: Fixed income,, publicly-traded equities, privately-held equities and alternative investments
- Experience working with multiple currencies preferred
- Experience with evaluating fair value of investments, reviewing valuations and ensuring appropriateness of related disclosures
- Expert knowledge of SEC and U.S. GAAP reporting requirements in relation to investments
- Sarbanes Oxley controls experience; GAAP regulatory compliance experience preferred
- Working knowledge of the Clearwater Analytics investment system and Bloomberg, preferred
- International regulatory requirements such as BSCR and Solvency II reporting preferred
- Proven track record of working effectively in a team environment, managing staff, interacting with other departments and executives throughout the group while demonstrating professionalism
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills necessary to articulate the appropriate message at various levels and tailor it to suit the audience
- Self-motivated individual who can work on their own initiative while meeting tight deadlines
- Confident in training and developing staff
- Ability to balance business as usual activity alongside the transformation agenda
- Strong Excel skills
- If based in U.S., ability to travel to Bermuda

The target base salary pay range for this role is $223,000- $275,000.
*Target full-time equivalent base salary range is based on relevant market data. The actual salary offered will depend on applicable market data for hiring location and relevant candidate knowledge, skills/experience. This salary range is not inclusive of applicable discretionary incentives.
