Position Overview:
This position will report directly to the EVP, Chief Credit Officer Mitsubishi HC Capital America, Inc. (MHCA) and will oversee an underwriting team involved in the new deal origination activities including structuring, underwriting and closing MHCA's large Specialty Products transactions. This position will support various business segments in the US and Canada, such as ABL, Franchise, Equipment, Project Finance, Trade Finance, Cash Flow, and Private Credit. This role requires deep experience in highly structured, large-scale transactions across a broad spectrum of commercial finance products, including equipment finance, project finance, leveraged lending, sponsor finance, and asset-based lending (ABL). Additionally, established market relationships with significant co-lending non-bank specialty finance companies are crucial for understanding market standards and enhancing credibility. This position will also be responsible for processes, procedures, templates and strong portfolio quality.
This role is a highly visible senior management, leadership role requiring decisiveness and strong interpersonal skills combined with the ability to prioritize and operate in a multi-tasked and geographically dispersed environment both independently and expediently.

The position is (exempt) and the salary will be between $250,000.00 and $325,000.00 with an opportunity to earn a discretionary bonus.
The salary range is determined and based on internal equity, market data/ranges, applicant's skills, prior relevant experience and education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with business development teams to set risk parameters and guidelines for various specialty product segments
- Establish early engagement with deal teams on key risk issues and ensure the best resource allocation to meet MHCA's business goals while maintaining risk levels within tolerance
- Ensure market knowledge and expertise in all deal transactions for informed decision making and safe portfolio growth
- Develop best practices and internal processes to execute on portfolio acquisitions and business acquisitions
- Build and maintain relationships with advisors and other market participants to stay abreast of market trends and developments
- Lead and coach a team of geographically diverse credit underwriters to support large ticket originations
- Oversee the strategic sourcing, evaluation, execution, and management of Specialty Finance credit investments
- Recommend and maintain appropriate credit authority for credit team members and provide credit decisions pursuant to the MHCA's and parent's risk appetite and policy
- Prepare and present detailed credit recommendations to the Credit Committee in North America and Japan
- Build and maintain relationships with advisors and other market participants
- Stay abreast of market trends and developments
- Utilize Operational Excellence tools with a process improvement mindset, and data driven analysis to improve deal flow productivity and conversion rates.
- Develop best practices and internal processes to execute on portfolio acquisitions and business acquisitions
- Work closely with Portfolio Management to understand portfolio performance and identify trends or issues in order to facilitate ongoing originations
- Hire, train, develop, conduct performance reviews, and maintain staffing levels to ensure department and company objectives are met
- Communicate credit views to senior management and help mentor and manage junior staff
Qualifications/Competencies:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Extensive experience with MHCA's Specialty Finance products, including Private Credit, Leveraged Lending, Franchise Finance, Trade Finance, Working Capital Finance as well as large ticket Equipment Lending and Leasing
- Established market relationships with significant co-lending non-bank specialty finance companies are crucial for understanding market standards and enhancing credibility.
- Experience underwriting, leading and managing syndicated transactions as lead agent
- Experience with the Canadian market is a plus
- Market relationship with significant other co-lending non bank specialty finance companies
- Strong influencing skills to lead efforts across reporting lines
- Strong administrative, communication/interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Ability to keep abreast of economic trends and developments including environmental, legal, governmental, and technological concerns
- Proven communication and collaboration skills and the ability to work with various internal and external clients across
- Experience managing a high performing team.
- 10+ years of leveraged lending experience with substantial buy-side experience in public and private opportunistic and special situations credit
- Strong knowledge of the credit markets, particularly in the distressed / special situations space
- Flexible investment approach to take advantage of an evolving investment landscape
- Experience working with financial sponsors
- High sense of urgency with the capacity to manage multiple processes simultaneously
- Enthusiastic about working in office as week as creating a hybrid work culture
Education and Experience:
- 25+ years of commercial lending experience.
- 10+ years of private credit and restructuring experience with deep experience in highly structured, large-scale transactions
- Bachelor's degree in business, Finance or related field or equivalent experience.
- Master of Business Administration preferred.
Tools and Equipment Used:

Travel:
Up to 50% Travel, meet with customers, vendors, or manufacturers as necessary.
