Under the general direction of the Linux Support Information Technology Manager I (IT Mgr. I), the Information Technology Specialist II (IT Spec II) provides an advanced technical level of system administration for central UNIX servers in a highly available and reliable computing environment. Duties include design, development, configuration, system and user application installation, maintenance of system services including patching, monitoring of system performance and status, diagnosis and repair of system failures in accordance with best practices in system administration and security. The IT Spec II assists clients with troubleshooting and resolving end-user issues; remains aware of current trends in computing and evaluates new developments in computing hardware and software; creates programs and scripts in support of the group's existing services and new offerings. The IT Spec II researches, acts as a team leader and participates in the advanced technical systems projects and infrastructure upgrades. The IT Spec II requires an advanced level of skills in analysis, planning, project management, documentation, system performance and resource utilization information gathering and analysis and vendor interaction and problem reporting and resolution.

Leadership with UNIX Support and collaboration and cooperation with the entire Office of Technology Services (OTech) technical staff and management are essential elements of this position. The IT Spec II independently provides leadership and applies mastery level technical skills and knowledge in the support of daily operations of UNIX server implementations at OTech Data Centers, both on-premise and Cloud based.

Telework
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule within California based on departmental policy and operational needs. The telework policy is subject to change depending on business needs, and/or reporting to the work site may be required with minimal notification given.

CA Residency:
