System Engineer, Director

Aerospace & Defense startup currently in Stealth based in El Segundo, made up of former SpaceX, Anduril, and Lockheed engineers, applying their knowledge to produce life-saving systems. Backed by joint staff level military leadership and several major SV firms. Our first product is designed for immediate deployment around the world.

Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced engineering leader with an extensive background in Aerospace and Defense who leads by example as an extraordinary individual contributor. The role will be responsible for steering technical design, program management, test execution, and day-to-day engineering decision making. This will be a full time+ executive role leading the team from the front by diving into engineering and executing on company deliverables.

Key responsibilities:

• Systems engineer, Director will oversee a medium sized team of hard working and talented engineers executing on extremely ambitious timelines with startup scale resources. He/she should be regularly get into the weeds of the engineering process and hold individuals accountable while encouraging learning and initiative.
• System Engineer, Director will work with the executive team to set and manage system requirements, timelines, and execution and will be the Responsible Engineer for program success.
• Pace-the team works exceptionally hard and the director will be expected to lead from the front-pushing a hardcore development cycle while ensuring staff's needs are met and concerns are addressed.
• Lead cross-functional teams to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex system issues, driving root cause analysis and preventative measures.
• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of complex systems engineering solutions, driving innovation and operational excellence across multi-disciplinary teams

Qualifications:

• 10+ years as exceptional engineering individual contributor/responsible engineer and 5+ years experience in leadership at fast-paced and innovative engineering-led aerospace/technology organization.
• 5+ years working with in Aerospace or Defense Industry.
• Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills, with the ability to inspire teams and effectively collaborate across functions.
• Familiarity with project management methodologies and the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years at startup
• 10+ yeas as an exceptional engineer and 5+ years in management at a flat organization
• Experience in business development, budgeting, and planning
• Machines/ solders/ flies drones/ rockets are hobbies and wishes their work was more like that
