Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science or a related field; supplemented by five years of experience in Infrastructure Management or System Management experience, deploying and managing virtualized systems, Active Directory, SCCM, MS Exchange; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Microsoft Certified Server Administrator (MCSA) and/or VMWare Experience or certification tract preferred.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must have knowledge of scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell). Must have Computer, Electronics, Engineering and Technology knowledge. Must have knowledge of compute and storage architecture and design principals. Must have expert knowledge of virtualization, operating systems and server and blade hardware, Active Directory and Microsoft Exchange email systems, storage concepts, storage virtualization, storage management and object storage, systems automation scripting and process. Must have advanced knowledge of IP networking and email protocols. Must have strong skills in systems design, communication and collaboration, strong diagnostic troubleshooting, automations, active listening, critical thinking, complex problem solving, operations analysis, and system evaluation. Must have the ability to manage time, to write well and clearly on technical subject for non-technical audiences, and to make sound judgement and decision making decisions.

Purpose of Classification:

This is a senior systems administration position whose function is to design, manage, operate and implement computing infrastructure including servers, operating systems, storage, and infrastructure services. This position will design, implement and upgrade complex computing infrastructure systems and provide technical leadership for project implementation teams.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Leads efforts to evaluate and design of new or refreshed server, storage and system software. Provides technical leadership for complex system implementations, maintenance, patching and updates. Troubleshoots and resolves server, storage and software issues, and repairs defective components or submits change requests.

Provides technical support for application development and IT engineering staff. Reviews and documents compute infrastructure processes, procedures and system documentation. Monitors compute infrastructure health, capacity reports and incident tickets and performs corrective actions.

Attends Vendor presentation. Leads and evaluates in proof of concept or pilot trial implementations. Researches vendor solutions and industry forums and reviews.Designs compute infrastructure solutions. Plans and leads large or complex implementations and updates. Serves as a resource for non-standard server builds, backup or storage allocations.

Serves as a technical escalation level for help desk incidents to diagnose and resolve complex incidents. Open support tickets with vendors and work with vendor support staff to resolve incidents. Diagnoses, designs and implement proactive solutions to systematic problems escalated by junior staff. Reviews change requests for planned system updates and patches. Provides occasional after-hours support to address application or infrastructure issues with support teams.

Responds to new or complex service request for server and storage change requests submitted by application development and IT engineering staff. Works with application development and IT engineering staff to diagnose and repair complex application system issues and outages.

Develops and updates standard operating procedures. Develops and updates compute infrastructure systems diagrams, design and component relationships.

Monitors and maintains the County systems infrastructure, ensuring that the appropriate performance meets the needs of the departments. Monitors and performs maintenance for the County's server infrastructure, including Linux and Microsoft OS based servers.

Monitors and performs maintenance for the County's VMware server virtualization infrastructure. Monitors and performs maintenance for the storage infrastructure including directly attached, SAN attached and Network shared storage.Monitors and performs maintenance for the County's infrastructure services such as Active Directory, DNS, Backup, , Infrastructure and monitoring applications.

Works directly with County application, server, and infrastructure related vendors to review, monitor, repair and implement infrastructure components and services.

Communicates with County officials, supervisor, other employees, clients, third party service contractors, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Additional Functions:
