Job Description:

Perform as a Lead Systems Engineer as part of a multidisciplinary team tasked with the analysis, design and integration of L3Harris tactical radio based communication systems and OEM equipment into customer assets with a focus on airborne fixed-wing, rotary, unmanned systems and ground mobile assets. Responsibilities include support and execution of initial concepts, formal technical proposals and engineering deliverables such as requirements, design documentation, trade studies, prototypes, test and field engineering services.

The candidate will need to work collaboratively across the engineering organization as well as with other Communications Systems sectors to focus on the development of unique and novel solutions. Partnering closely with Business Development and Sales teams, Engineering Project teams and Engineering Subject Matter Experts to ensure consistent engineering design rigor, technical strategy, direction, and alignment with the business strategic plans.

Essential Functions:
  • Ensure all program and proposal process steps are executed and enforce process rigor for TBR, Bid Package Review (SEMBPR), Requirements development, Design review (PDR/CDR/FDR) and validation & verification (V&V) both as an originator and as reviewer.
  • Participate in technical briefings, design and documentation reviews per standard development processes. Prepare for and participate in technical baseline (TBR) reviews.
  • Lead and mentor staff through systems engineering tasks including trade study, requirements management, design review, validation & verification test, install and commissioning.
  • Lead, direct and review work products to maintain workflow and productivity and ensure weekly objectives are achieved.
  • Influence designs for commonality and interoperability for platform and systems integration
  • Establish strategic working relationships with engineering project managers as well as functional teams and technical leads.
  • Expectation and priority management. Collaborate with other design teams, test, manufacturing, product service, program & product management, and external customers.
  • Support proposals including creation of engineering NRE and RE materials estimates and subcontractor statements of work (SoW).
  • Assess and report technical project status, risks and issues up through engineering management.
  • Domestic and International travel in support of Systems programs and proposals to be expected approximately 20-40%
  • Ability to obtain a US DoD Secret Clearance

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:
  • Experience with L3Harris radio systems; HF, VHF, UHF and SATCOM waveforms and concept of operations, performance characteristics and programming.
  • Ability to partner with stake holders and team leaders to identify needs and develop marketable Tactical Communication System solutions which provide customer value.
  • Working knowledge of military asset use cases, maneuvers, command structures, and signals doctrine. Experience participating in and supporting exercises on military installations, interacting with enlisted and officer personnel.
  • Direct customer and end-user interaction, proven and effective communications skills, interpersonal skills and customer focus are a must.
  • Field engineering experience; international travel with customer facing demonstration and testing.
  • Understanding of Tactical Radio Communications, including RF propagation, frequency planning/spectrum management, antenna and system component selection and trade studies.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and design constraints for rugged military applications. Familiarity with concepts and standards related to MIL-STD-810G/901D, shock and vibe, and environmental requirements.
  • Understanding of AC and DC electrical system design, components and specification for use in rugged military platforms. Familiarity with concepts and standards such as MIL-STD-1275D, transient protection and electrical safety (NFPA 70, ANSI, ISO standards)
  • Experience in leading engineering teams and delegating to junior level engineers. Tasking, auditing and constructive feedback skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering and productivity tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, and MS Office Suite

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New York State is $108,500 - $201,500. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
