Systems Safety Specialist

Location: Peterborough, ON

Systems Safety Specialist requires advanced formal engineering education, prior
experience in Reliability and Safety Analyses, exceptional knowledge of interpreting safety
specifications and systems architecture development based on the outcome of the safety assessment. The role includes the ability to manage and produce safety related deliverables and working with other Systems/Hardware designers to meet the safety requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all required project RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety) tasks at system level, subsystem level or equipment level; as per the applicable instructions/processes and other specific requirements committed to the Customer.
  • Develop RAMS plans and System Safety Assurance analyses as per safety standards.
  • Review and/or Contribute to the assessment of the RAMS performance of the product and to the upstream identification of the necessary RAMS requirements to ensure the achievement of the RAMS targets.
  • Develop system/sub-system architecture based on the safety requirements.
  • Generate and/review Safety Assessment deliverables - Reliability Report, FMEA/FMECA, FTA, RBD, SEU, SEE, MBU, CMA
  • Prepare for and conduct design reviews,(for PDR, DDR, CDR, PRR etc.) as required.
  • Effectively plan, manage and support certification process.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering or equivalent;
  • System Safety Engineer with more than 7 years experience in aerospace.
  • Strong knowledge of the overall ARP4761/ ARP 4754A process
  • Strong knowhow in the interpretation of safety requirements.
  • Experience with SSA Tools - PTC Windchill Risk and Reliability (preferred), Isograph,
  • Reliasoft, etc
  • Experience with system safety, Functional safety, DO-254, DO-178
  • Familiar with aircraft certification process
  • Industry experience designing and bring up safety critical complex electrical circuits.
  • Strong experience in schematics, layout, component management.
  • In-depth understanding of electronic hardware and digital components .
  • Knowledge of requirements management tools, problem tracking tools, configuration
  • management tools and test management tools, such as IBM DOORS, SBM, JIRA.
