Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, an international law firm, is actively recruiting a Tax and ERISA Team Manager. This position is responsible for the firmwide support of Tax & ERISA team's strategic goals and business operational objectives. Provides leadership for the financial, administrative and business development functions of the team, with overall responsibility for assisting the team leadership with respect to implementing policies, procedures, processes and systems. Establishes productive, collaborative partnerships with other Team Managers to create and drive firmwide objectives and outcomes.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Represents team leadership on administrative functions as needed and liaising with other team managers and firm leadership . Responsible for serving the greater good of the team by bringing together people and resources to create value and facilitating team leadership needs.

2. Takes primary role in developing the team budget for the year and negotiating with team leadership and once approved by team leadership and the Executive Committee, takes responsibility for monitoring operational expenditures and achievement of performance targets. Conducts financial analysis for team and practice group performance, provides regular financial reports to team leadership (including the development of new reports as needed and requested by team leadership) and partners and makes recommendations for appropriate actions. Reports monthly on key performance indicators to team leadership. Acts as point person for questions and resolves discrepancies as needed and liaises between team leadership and team lawyers regarding practice related expenses. Identifies performance trends and analyzes financial results compared to budget to monitor achievement of performance targets.

3. Participates with attorneys in the evaluation, development and monitoring of alternative fee arrangements, rate structures and project budgets to meet specific client needs or projects. Prepares business plans and understands practice group and team initiatives that will help achieve these goals. Supports team and practice group initiatives, as needed.

4. Monitors attorney and staff timekeeper hours and actively assists team leadership in ensuring timely time entry compliance and talent reallocation to meet short-term and long-term work demands to maximize productivity. Offers sharing arrangements and staffing models solutions to team leadership. Assesses the viability of attorney secondments, hires, transitions in arrangements, and promotions. Engages partners to assess attorney and staff performance. Prepares drafts of all memorandum regarding lawyer promotion to counsel and partner and refines with team leadership and sponsors of lawyer seeing advancement.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience managing projects or processes required, preferably in a law firm, professional services, or other client relationship-based organization. Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
  • Other Qualifications: Travel may be required. Availability and willingness to work hours as needed to meet critical deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications. Strong commitment to client service excellence and teamwork. Must possess the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism. Must act as catalyst for change, drive and own results. Creative and innovative. Excellent communication skills (oral, written and listening) and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse group of professionals. Sound judgment and flexibility. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions. Visual acuity needed to process and read extensive written communications. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through oral communication. Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory.   • The expected salary range for New York based employees is $145,400 to $231,800, though salaries for employees based outside of New York may differ. Beyond an employment candidate's physical location, salary offers may be based on a number of factors, including but not limited to, education, training, and/or experience.
