Low-carbon fuels reduce the carbon intensity, or the level of greenhouse gas emissions, compared to standard fossil-based fuels across their lifecycle. The most common low-carbon fuels are renewable fuels. Gevo is focused on the development and production of mainstream fuels like gasoline and jet fuel using renewable feedstocks that have the potential to lower greenhouse gas emissions at a meaningful scale and enhance agricultural production, including food and other related products.

About the role

The Tax and Incentives Manager will oversee the tax compliance, reporting, and strategy for an organization. The Tax and Incentives Manager will take leadership and ownership over all Gevo corporate and project-level (special purpose entities that may have third-party equity partners) tax matters. Corollary responsibilities will include (i) lead corporate and project insurance matters and (ii) lead the management of corporate and project-level government incentive programs (e.g., R&D grants, state level sales & use tax relief, property tax abatements).

Who You Are

  • Monitor tax law changes and address financial and operational implications
  • Lead and assist in preparation and review of quarterly and annual tax provisions and related financial statement disclosures
  • Lead the preparation of the state and federal tax returns
  • Ensure efficient utilization of tax assets
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of local, state, and federal tax returns.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Stay updated on changes to tax laws and regulations and adjust processes accordingly.
  • Review and/or prepare income tax accounting memoranda to document analysis and conclusions for complex transactions
  • Manage transfer pricing documentation and policies
  • Maintain and reconcile tax-related accounts as a part of the accounting close process
  • Review global tax returns prepared by outside providers
  • Interface with controllers and accounting to ensure timely information sharing
  • Lead tax planning strategic initiatives and projects
  • Manage U.S., State and foreign income tax audits and dispute resolutions
  • Develop and maintain SOX compliance as it pertains to tax management
  • Assist in special projects including but not limited to: tax planning at project subsidiary, intermediate holdco, and corporate levels, analysis of income tax consequences of non-standard transactions, indirect tax support and cross-functional business initiatives
  • Support tax functions within Gevo's ERP system
  • Review AP invoices to ensure proper coding and provide support to accounting team.
  • Review account reconciliations
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency of both tax and accounting functions.
  • Close interface with finance personnel in corporate, holdco, and project modeling to ensure complete and accurate quantitative treatment of taxes and expected after-tax financial results
  • Research, implement, and manage various corporate and project incentive programs such as property tax abatements, federal, state, and local project and R&D assistance in the form of tax credits, rebates, or grants
  • Assist with potential tax equity transaction execution and administration
  • Maintain and establish new relationships with a stable of external tax expertise to handle a range of complex tax matters

Requirements & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Masters in Taxation, preferred
  • 10+ years of significant experience at a public accounting firm and/or publicly traded corporate tax department
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Detailed and results oriented
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to meet project deliverables
  • Ability to work well within a team structure and effect change cross functionally
  • Exceptional writing, communication, interpersonal & presentation skills
  • Intermediate to expert level Excel Skills
  • Proficient in tax provision software
  • Prior working experience with NetSuite's ERP system, preferred

The pay range for this role is:

140,000 - 195,000 USD per year (Gevo Corporate)
