Position Overview:

Brown Advisory is seeking an experienced and highly skilled tax professional with a strong background in wealth transfer tax and fiduciary income tax to serve as Tax Director - Fiduciary & Private Client. A versatile thinking partner and problem solver, the Tax Director - Fiduciary & Private Client collaborates with Strategic and Investment Advisors to develop creative solutions for minimizing estate, gift, and income taxes and has overall responsibility for fiduciary income tax matters with respect to our three trust companies.

The ideal candidate possesses broad tax expertise and substantial experience advising high-net-worth relationships, trustees, family offices, and private foundations on all relevant tax matters. This role involves providing substantive and procedural fiduciary income tax expertise and guidance, developing tax compliance process improvements, and managing tax controversy activity for our trust companies and fiduciary clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical tax expertise, strategies, and solutions to internal colleagues and clients in collaboration with Strategic Advisory, Client Service, and Investment Advisory teams.
  • Serve as key point of escalation and consultation for all fiduciary income tax issues.
  • Collaborate with Fiduciary Tax Manager and Fiduciary Tax Team to facilitate timely and efficient preparation, review, and filing of fiduciary income tax returns in collaboration with outside CPA firms.
  • Conduct research, identify and analyze issues, and provide comprehensive tax solutions to individuals, families, family offices, trustees, private foundations, and business entities.
  • Stay updated on current tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance, develop optimal tax strategies, and keep colleagues informed of changes or developments.
  • Provide training and support to internal teams on a variety of tax matters, including retirement account rules, FBAR filings, and related issues.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. CPA and Masters in Taxation strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years related experience.
  • Possess knowledge in broad range of tax law, including individual and fiduciary income tax, partnership tax, wealth transfer tax, charitable trusts, and private foundations.
  • Experience with tax compliance controversies and disputes, including handling or managing correspondence and communications with federal and state taxing authorities to resolve notices, inquiries, and letters.
  • Strong management skills and leadership experience.
  • Able to work effectively with minimal supervision, collaborate effectively, and demonstrate strong interpersonal abilities in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in Washington D.C. or Baltimore office location.


Salary: $175-200k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility, which are applicable for this role.
