Avantax, Inc. (Avantax), a unique community within Cetera Holdings, is seeking a Tax Director who will be responsible for overseeing all tax-related functions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations when providing strategic tax advice to clients. This role requires deep technical expertise in tax department operations, tax compliance, and planning, as well as the leadership skills to guide and develop a team of professionals.

Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $180,000 - $200,000, plus a competitive performance-based bonus. Compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years and depth of experience, certifications, and specific office location. Compensation ranges may differ in differing locations due to cost of labor considerations.

(Avantax), a unique community within Cetera Holdings, is seeking a Tax Director who will be responsible for overseeing all tax-related functions, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations when providing strategic tax advice to clients. This role requires deep technical expertise in tax department operations, tax compliance, and planning, as well as the leadership skills to guide and develop a team of professionals.
What you will do:
Strategic Leadership:
- Work with Firm leadership on the development and execution of the strategy for the tax practice
- Develop IT and Service platforms for usage across all acquired tax practices.
- Collaborate with Corporate Development and Integrations on acquisitions of the tax practices, including due diligence, planning, and post-acquisition integration.
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, develop, and mentor a team of tax professionals at all levels.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the tax department across all locations.
- Oversee staffing and training needs to ensure the team is equipped to meet client demands.
- Provide ongoing coaching and professional development opportunities to team members.
Tax Compliance, Planning & Strategy:
- Oversee the operations for preparation and review of tax returns for individuals, businesses, partnerships, corporations, and fiduciary entities.
- Ensure processes for all tax filings comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Ensure teams stay up-to-date with the latest tax laws, regulations, and changes, and ensure the firm's compliance with these updates.
- Create collaboration between wealth advisory and tax practices to identify opportunities to provide strategic tax planning advice to clients to minimize their tax liabilities and achieve their financial goals.
Quality Control and Risk Management:
- Review and develop processes and procedures to:
- Ensure the accuracy of all tax filings and work products before submission.
- Identify and mitigate potential tax risks for clients.
- Ensure the firm adheres to ethical standards and best practices in all tax-related matters.
- Ensure tax practice adheres to overall firm policies and practices.
Collaboration with Other Departments:
- Work closely with other departments to provide integrated services to clients.
- Participate in firm-wide initiatives and contribute to the overall growth and success of the firm.
Industry Leadership:
- Represent the firm at industry events, conferences, and seminars as necessary to grow the visibility and reputation of the Avantax Solutions brand in the tax community.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in managing and developing a tax team.
- Expertise in tax software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of current tax laws and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
What is nice to have:
- CPA license is strongly preferred.
