Vehicle Architecture Synthesis Technical Expert

In this position...
This role involves initiating new vehicle concepts and leveraging the individual's skill set in vehicle architecture and attributes.

What you'll do...

  • Provide Pre-Program Section with technical expert of architecture synthesis.
  • Successfully apply the Vehicle Architecture Synthesis process to multiple case studies.
  • Expand the Synthesis team's capabilities by generating system synthesis models to define the best balance of functional design and attribute performance.
  • Develop VAS process and organize into a methodical problem-solving tool.
  • Develop course material and background for future training program.
  • Be the Ford Motor Company focal point of contact for architecture synthesis process.
  • Develop internal, cross-department relationships.
  • Be mechanism of change at Ford Motor Company to help institutionalize the VAS method and to improve competitiveness of our products.


Qualifications

Talent:
  • High level of commitment and inspirational drive for improving results.
  • Motivation of continuous improvement of processes and technical knowledge.
  • Passion for vehicle architecture (configuration design) and system's optimization.
  • Organized problem solver, with the ability to define distinct analytical strategies.
  • Communicator of abstract concepts, illustrating key trade-offs to present best approach.

Skills:
  • 15+ years engineering experience with multi-disciplined balance.
  • Specialized understanding of systems architecture synthesis methodologies.
  • Analytical Skills: CAE, CFD, DOE, and various analytical and statistical techniques.
  • Design Skills: Three-dimensional innovative problem solver, with CAD experience.
  • Abstract architectural thinker.

Knowledge:
  • BS required, MS (or equivalent experience) in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience in early vehicle architecture development.
  • Cross attribute knowledge, with understanding of target setting, system interactions, and system design.
  • Knowledge in vehicle and system mass estimation, vehicle mass distribution and loads, vehicle range and efficiency estimation, performance modeling, etc.
  • Experience in vehicle system architecture synthesis.
  • Applied experience in systems engineering.
  • Experience external to Ford a plus.

Ability:
  • Understand abstract systems, techniques, and requirements.
  • Think creatively, and dissect complex systems and represent them simply.
  • Conduct architecture synthesis of complex systems and develop system models.
  • Recognize the needs of both internal and external customers
  • Be technical focal point and effectively train and mentor others.
