Are you a technical accounting expert looking for an opportunity to make a meaningful impact? We are seeking a Manager, Technical Accounting to provide forward-thinking guidance on complex accounting issues, ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, and help shape our organization's financial policies and reporting processes. This role is instrumental in driving accounting excellence, supporting cross-functional teams, and ensuring our financial framework aligns with regulatory requirements and organizational objectives.

What You'll Do

Technical Accounting & Research (40%)
  • Provide expert-level guidance on a wide range of accounting topics, including revenue recognition, grants, contributions, leases, and financial instruments, with a focus on non-profit accounting when applicable.
  • Conduct in-depth research and analysis of accounting standards, including ASC 958 (Not-for-Profit Entities), and recommend practical applications for the organization.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical accounting memos and position papers to document accounting decisions for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Monitor updates in U.S. GAAP and regulatory requirements, advising leadership on their impact and necessary actions.

Policy Development & Compliance (40%)
  • Design, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures that align with U.S. GAAP and support the organization's mission and strategic objectives.
  • Ensure consistency in accounting practices across departments and regions through the development of clear policy frameworks.
  • Lead and review walkthroughs of accounting processes and controls, identifying and mitigating risks while ensuring compliance with internal procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee internal control testing and continuous monitoring to ensure compliance with established accounting policies.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to integrate internal controls into daily business processes, ensuring practical and effective implementation.

Support Functional Development (20%)
  • Assist the Senior Director, Accounting Policy and Controls with financial reporting, including reviewing monthly financials and preparing audited financial statements and regulatory filings (e.g., IRS Form 990 for non-profits).
  • Support the external audit process, ensuring smooth coordination and adherence to audit requirements.
  • Work with finance, legal, tax, and operational teams to assess the accounting implications of business decisions and transactions.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance for strategic initiatives, conduct due diligence, and lead training sessions for non-finance teams on relevant accounting standards and policies.


What We're Looking For
  • Education & Certification:
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
    • CPA certification required.
  • Experience & Skills:
    • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong track record in managing complex financial processes and driving strategic initiatives.
    • Advanced technical accounting knowledge, with the ability to address complex financial scenarios, particularly within mission-driven organizations.
    • Expertise in internal control frameworks, including SOX-like compliance, with hands-on experience in implementation, monitoring, and testing of controls.
    • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with a commitment to excellence and accuracy.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex accounting topics for a diverse audience.
    • Proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools; experience with platforms used by non-profits is a plus.
    • Prior experience with non-profit accounting is preferred but not required.

Expected salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000 per year

Other benefits include eligibility for annual incentives, 12%/ 401K pension employer contribution, and competitive medical benefits.
