Position Summary: The Solutions Architect / Technical Estimator will be responsible for crafting complex proposals and developing unique, vertically integrated manufacturing solutions for our customers; supporting the MedTech, Implantable and Drug Delivery / Wearables market segments. This role is an engineering liaison working with Business Development Managers, Engineering Innovation Teams, Manufacturing Centers of Excellence, and Executive Leadership with the purpose of generating accurate and detailed costing proposals that exceed customer expectations for quality, price, and delivery.
The position will work across the Weiss-Aug Group, including multi-site R&D, Engineering, Design, Tooling and Manufacturing to create a "Single Source" proposal, of which they will be responsible for generation of the quotation (RFQ response), technical presentations, cost models, and participate as a technical lead in educating / selling the proposed solution to the customer.
The ideal candidate will have an engineering background in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, value engineering, or related engineering field with concentrated technical knowledge and previous estimating experience in at least one of the following core competencies: insert injection molding of thermoplastics, precision machined components, contract assemblies (finished devices). The ability to review product part design models and assemblies, and to identify key manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment is an integral part of the required skillset for this role.
This position will report to the Sr. Vice President | MedTech, with strong dotted line reporting to the Director of Business Development | MedTech.

Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, model files (CAD) and other documentation to prepare accurate cost estimates for manufacturing projects, particularly those involving insert injection molding of thermoplastics, precision machined components, and/or complex sub-assemblies for the MedTech industry
- Collaborate with engineering, production, procurement and accounting teams to gather and validate cost data
- Utilize software tools and engineering knowledge to develop detailed cost models for materials, labor, equipment, and other resources
- Identify the best possible manufacturing processes and select appropriate equipment to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Generate internal business cases, including projected ROI for CapEx spending justification in collaboration with Accounting Partners
- Utilize SolidWorks, CAD/CAM software packages for product DFM, and estimating purposes
- Utilize software tools to facilitate, and automate generation of detailed proposals, including standard cost data and estimates for engineering resource needs, tooling costs, rate basis, cycle times, purchased materials and outside service costs
- Perform product level design for manufacture (DFM) to ensure products are designed for optimal manufacturing efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Collaborate across engineering Centers of Excellence for multi-plant vertically integrated proposals
- Review and analyze historical data to inform and improve estimating processes
- Prepare and present detailed cost breakdowns, proposals, and reports to management and clients
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and provide recommendations to improve product design, materials, or manufacturing efficiency
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, technologies, and best practices in manufacturing and cost estimation
- Support the project management and engineering team with data required as part of the hand-off of newly awarded business to ensure alignment with original proposal and cost estimates
- Active participant in Advanced Product Quality Planning process (APQP); and participant in Strategic Sales Planning
- Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, and internal teams to ensure accurate and timely delivery of estimates - and proper approvals / review routing
- Review Supply, Commercial Agreements, Quality and Liability Terms associated with completion of RFQs
Additional Responsibilities:
- Gain thorough knowledge of Competitors, Target Markets and Emerging Trends. Continually Improve knowledge of our Business and Industry via Trade Show Attendance, Trade Journals, Customer Query and Feedback, Competitive Activity, Changing Technologies and Industry Trends
- Maintain Positive / Active Working Relationships with Key Engineering and Procurement Personnel at Customer Sites to Assure a Steady Flow of New Opportunities
- Maintain Synergistic relationships with Weiss-Aug Group Team Members - Creating a Trust and Performance Based Model for Shared Growth and Success in meeting MedTech Group Level Goals & Objectives
- Maintain Company CRM Tool
- Travel, 10%-15%, is Anticipated in support of Sales Efforts, Trade Shows, and Supplier / Vendor Trips
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related field).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost estimation or a related role in the manufacturing industry, with specific experience in insert injection molding of thermoplastics, precision machined components, and/or complex sub-assemblies (finished goods) for the medical device industry
- Experience working for a Contract Manufacturer or OEM
- Strong engineering background with a solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and equipment
- Ability to identify the best possible manufacturing processes
- Proficiency in using SolidWorks or equipment CAD/CAM software packages for estimating and DFM purposes
- Experience in product level design for manufacture (DFM)
- Ability to collaborate across engineering Centers of Excellence for multi-plant vertically integrated proposals
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in cost estimation
- Understanding of associated Regulatory / Quality requirements for MedTech Industry (ISO13485; FDA; CFR820 Part 11 Compliance, GxP, MedAccred)
