In this position...

The Technical Leader - Steering Electronic Hardware / Mechatronics is responsible for oversight, technical content, technical design leadership and strategy of safety critical Chassis electronic hardware, which include steering, braking and suspension. In this role, you will serve as the technical Leader for Chassis electronic hardware and components guiding the team in the development of electronic hardware and components for new mechatronic systems, using robust engineering practices and with an emphasis on high quality and competitive cost. This Technical Leader will also be responsible for significantly raising the overall level of competency and engineering excellence of the teams through mentoring, teaching and through technical design review leadership.

Responsibilities

What you'll do...
  • The Technical Leader is a recognized & accomplished technical expert who can interface with all levels of management & outside activities on safety critical mechatronic EE hardware and components and their interface to the vehicle.
  • Be a technical resource internally & externally on component & vehicle systems. Provide technical support to global teams
  • Lead definition of best practices and engineering processes for up-front design analyses and failure analyses, for both component and subsystem/systems.
  • Guide & oversee training, mentoring & provide consulting to department Technical Specialists, engineers, supervisors & other interfacing function
  • Analyze designs during the development process & address any potential failures & error states; pull in appropriate Technical Specialists as needed.
  • Lead design of new concepts to improve system performance & provide leadership & support for timely implementation
  • Monitor & investigate new system technologies to maintain company position as industry leader in this field.
  • Oversee development of and advise technical EE hardware strategy on advanced safety critical chassis mechatronic systems, such as Steering-by-wire, electromechanical braking and advanced Electronic Power Steering technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance and strategy on new electronic hardware system development with focus on Best in Class quality and Zero Field Service Actions.
  • Provide technical guidance and advisement to internal engineering teams to support critical concern review group topics.
  • Lead Expert for for problem solving - launch, recall, quality / field issues and technical resolution of Electronic hardware and component issues.
  • Oversee specification development, standards and verification methods, and support systemic prevent recurrence.
  • Lead Technical Design Reviews safety critical electronic hardware. Support signoff responsibility and recommendations to Chief engineer.


Qualifications

You'll have...

Minimum Requirements:
  • BS Engineering - Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of safety critical Automotive design experience or related Industry experience, steering and braking experience preferred with emphasis on related electrical / electronic hardware systems.
  • Thorough understanding of steering, braking safety critical electronic hardware technology and design
  • Experience with strong supplier management of complex mechatronics embedded systems.
  • Experienced in conducting and leading Worst Case Circuit analysis for safety critical electronic systems
  • Candidate must provide an evidence book detailing technical experiences, key accomplishments, recognitions, training, publications, patents & other supporting evidence
  • Extensive experience diagnosing and solving complex EE system problems.

Preferred Requirements:
  • MS Engineering or Ph.D in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with Electro-mechanical Embedded systems
  • 20+ Years of experience in the design and development of safety critical electronic hardware
  • 5+ Years of experience in a Technical Expert role at Ford
  • Experience developing a safety critical product/new technology from initial development through launch
  • Knowledgeable in GPDS and GTDS
  • Interface experience with Corporate Safety and Legal teams on safety critical systems.
  • Solid foundation in Ford electronics requirements (ELCOMP, E-412, EMC, etc.)
