Description:
Winpak Control Group (WCG) is seeking a Technical Manager to join their team based out of Norwood, New Jersey.
As the Technical Manager reporting to the Plant Manager of WCG, you'll be the key expert on all technical aspects of products, materials, printing equipment, and processes. This includes optimizing material-machine interactions, evaluating new products, analyzing competitors, and scouting new technologies.
You'll advise management on new product development, ensuring safety, quality, and productivity goals are met while aligning with Winpak's policies and regulations. In collaboration with sales, operations, and purchasing teams, you'll drive revenue growth and promote knowledge sharing across the organization.
Your primary focus will be enhancing material performance, optimizing equipment, improving product quality, and reducing costs. You'll lead technology scouting, material replacement projects, and cost-saving initiatives, providing expert guidance in printing equipment, ink systems, coatings, and material selection.

Key Responsibilities:Safety & Compliance
- Foster a strong safety culture and ensure a safe work environment.
- Participate in the Health and Safety Committee, addressing and resolving safety issues.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements from government and external agencies
Operations & Technical Leadership
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and procurement teams to meet company and customer specifications.
- Drive plant efficiency improvements while ensuring equipment reliability and meeting cost objectives.
- Provide expert guidance on ink systems, coatings, substrates, printing equipment, and process optimization.
- Lead projects focused on ink system and material substitutions to improve cost-efficiency in printing operations.
- Collaborate with R&D and operations teams to optimize production rates, reduce waste, and enhance efficiency.
- Lead specification optimization and cost-reduction initiatives for Winpak and its clients.
Collaboration & Team Development
- Recommend and implement training programs to develop technical and managerial skills across teams Promote teamwork, collaboration, and effective communication within Winpak's teams.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external business units to achieve operational targets.
- Serve as the primary resource for printing-related best practices and training.
Additional Responsibilities
- Stay current on industry trends by engaging with suppliers, attending seminars, conferences, and reading trade publications.
- Evaluate and recommend investments in alternative print technologies.
- Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Polymer, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a comparable technical degree.
- 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing printing industry
- 5+ years of experience working with ink systems, coatings, packaging materials, and printing processes.
- 5+ years of experience utilizing CAPEX for the acquisition of a variety of different equipment's
- 5+ years of experience collaborating with or leading cross-functional teams.
- 5+ years of experience in a role that required exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of food contact (FDA) and cGMP regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience or relevant printing experience including flexographic, offset, gravure printing, or flexible packaging.
- 5+ years of experience managing projects and using project management skills, tools and technology
- 5+ years of experience proficiently using Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
