UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UW's IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW Medicine, and research operations around the world, partnering with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service." Data & Applications (D&A) is the division in UW-IT that runs the university's academic and business systems, productivity platforms, enterprise integrations, learning analytics and data for decision-making and is also responsible for the accessibility of UW's digital resources. Data Integrations is the unit within D&A focused on data, especially UW Administrative data. The unit leads integrating data into the enterprise, amplifying the value of UW's data, and ultimately enabling customers and partner success.
The Data Integrations unit is hiring a technology manager for the Enterprise Web Services and Events (EWSE) team. The team develops and operates business Web APIs, event messaging, and data integration services.
The EWSE Technology Manager leads a team of software engineers. The role is responsible for clearly articulating goals, managing performance, overseeing implementations, and developing team culture. The Technology Manager is responsible for building strong working relationships with other units represented both within and beyond UW-IT. The Technology Manager ensures solutions are valuable to customers and operationally sustainable. The Technology Manager provides team leadership for both operations and strategic projects.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems, Information Management, Library Sciences, or related field OR equivalent experience.
Minimum of five years' experience leading or performing progressively more complex data or systems integration project work
Demonstrated ability to implement, or lead the implementation of, new technologies to solve complex business problems
Demonstrated experience successfully leading dynamic teams or projects with Agile methodologies
Experience in leading a team through the design and implementation of data projects and/or solutions (i.e. system to system integrations, new APIs, API features & enhancements, data quality, access controls, data security and privacy, business intelligence, data pipelines, or migration of data infrastructure)
Ability to prioritize short term versus long term solutions while managing technical or design debt
Ensured solutions match service level agreements, expected cost of ownership over time, and quality expectations
Demonstrated advanced project management soft skills including tolerance for ambiguity, ability to earn the trust of stakeholders, ability to motivate team members, tenacious problem ownership, the ability to deliver bad news gracefully, and a dedication to customer advocacy
Demonstrated excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities
Experience engaging teams across organizational boundaries to align teams on priorities, urgent operational issues, or project work
Experience in developing priorities, roadmaps, and/or program portfolio
Experience successfully turning vague or ambiguous requests into actionable deliverables
Experience managing, leading and developing staff, including providing day-to-day supervision
Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and skills is essential; Strong problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
DESIRED:
Experience business analysis, project management, or technical experience in enterprise IT or consulting
Experience leading/managing teams; proven ability to lead and grow technical systems and service teams
Experience as a Service Manager in an enterprise environment
Experience with data governance, including engaging senior business leaders to align IT work with governance expectations
Experience in multi-year, complex systems implementation programs spanning dozens of teams and services
Experience working in an educational setting
Ability to collaborate with business and technology teams to create practical, robust and scalable solutions meeting the business and technology goals/strategy of the organization
Experience with business drivers and how those relate to software delivery
Background in program management in a high growth environment
Exceptional and proven leadership skills
Experience managing project portfolios (resource and capacity planning)
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems independently with creative approaches
Ability to create clear goals and foster accountability/ownership
