Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit organization centered around an incredible space equipped with state-of-the-art print-, ceramic-, and metal-fabrication studios, and digitally-enabled event venues at a former power station in Gowanus.

We're looking for a technically knowledgeable, service-focused, individual to join our team as our Technology Software Specialist. Reporting to the head of technology, you will have three primary responsibilities:
  • Become the In-House Expert.
    Become expert in software systems including: Asana, Zoom, Google Workspace, Momentus (event management), Box, Salesforce, and other systems, as used within our organization.
  • Craft Solutions that Delight Powerhouse Teams.
    Work with team leads - including studio heads, Finance, Development, Facilities, as well as IT - to understand business needs and workflows and to ensure that software is thoughtfully configured and integrated to support Powerhouse teams in doing their work easily, effectively, and securely.
  • System Administration.
    Handle system administration and license management for all internal systems.

  • Powerhouse Arts is a not-for-profit established to create a robust platform for art production and employment in the arts. Powerhouse Arts' programming includes education, employment opportunities, and public engagement to increase access and opportunity for participation in the arts for all New Yorkers. For the past six years, Powerhouse has been stewarding the redevelopment of the former Brooklyn Rapid Transit Power Station in Gowanus. We recently relocated to our permanent home which houses fabrication services, production spaces, and member workshops for artisans. We are expanding our team and hiring for key staff roles as we expand our offerings.

    Powerhouse is seeking an Technology Software Specialist to understand the needs and workflows of PHA departments ensuring that organization-wide software systems are thoughtfully configured and integrated to the teams in doing their work easily, effectively, and securely. This role will work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the organization is fully leveraging each system, and will work closely with vendors and partners where appropriate.

    The Technology Software Specialist will act as the systems administrator for all enterprise applications and be responsible for user management, system updates, invoice management, database management, and other assigned tasks as needed. This role reports to the head of technology, a function that is currently handled directly by the SVP with outside support.

    Responsibilities include:

    As the in-house expert on enterprise-wide software systems used at Powerhouse, the ESS will:
    • This role's key function is to provide expertise and guidance to the organization on features, capabilities, and best practices in using Enterprise software.
    • Stay abreast of changes to the software products, companies, pricing, and features that impact Powerhouse users
    • Systematically engage with Powerhouse teams to understand how they are using software, and to ensure they know how to get support, and maintain the knowledge and skills they need to use the systems well
    • Establish a systematic program of onboarding training, lunch-and-learns, and internal skills-and-knowledge-focused communication

    Crafting Solutions
    • Act as a "business analyst" when new requirements arise for technology systems. In that capacity, the Technology Software Specialist will work with users to develop clear requirements, ensuring that all stakeholders are consulted. You will assess the vendor landscape, and determine the best way to obtain the needed functionality by either extending the use of current systems, or by obtaining new systems.
    • Systematically work with team leads, software vendors, and service providers, to ensure that software is thoughtfully configured and integrated to support Powerhouse teams in doing their work easily, effectively, and securely
    • Seek out examples of best practices from industry and peer organizations, and bring the best solutions to Powerhouse
    • Thoughtfully engage with vendors and service providers so that they are aware and aligned with Powerhouse goals and are motivated to do their best
    • Work with staff to develop requirements for new capabilities or systems
    • Lead software selections, in consultation with team leads, under the direction of the SVP or designee

    Systems Administrator
    • Manage system settings and configuration to best-practice standard
    • Manage license requirements and compliance; work with our MSP on proper provisioning, de-provisioning processes
    • Manage and coordinate with vendors for IT-related needs and responsibilities
    • Work with Powerhouse team members to ensure that there are designated business owners for each system, with certain administrative and vendor-relationship responsibilities; coach and support those business owners in performing the role effectively
    • Management reserves the right to revise these responsibilities or to require other/different tasks be performed as institutional circumstances change


    Qualifications

    • 5+ years of experience in a similar role
    • Ready to work onsite in Brooklyn, New York
    • Excellent communicator, able to speak/write/present information and intention clearly
    • Project management experience; able to manage complex system implementations, managing details
    • Expert with typical business software, such as Google Workspace applications
    • Must have experience managing one of the following: Asana, Box, Salesforce, Zoom, Momemtus
    • Learning-oriented

    Compensation & Benefits: Salary range is $75,000-$89,000 and commensurate with experience. Benefits include health insurance, an employer-sponsored retirement plan, generous paid vacation, and a Citibike membership.
