Position Purpose:
This position reports to the Supervisor, Records & Mapping Services, and is responsible for maintaining and distributing utility operations/corporate records. The incumbent will update the Geographic information System (GIS) electrical network, land base data, produce reports and assist in the creation of maps. They assure security and integrity of Alectra's GIS and various Engineering/corporate records

Position Purpose:
This position reports to the Supervisor, Records & Mapping Services, and is responsible for maintaining and distributing utility operations/corporate records. The incumbent will update the Geographic information System (GIS) electrical network, land base data, produce reports and assist in the creation of maps. They assure security and integrity of Alectra's GIS and various Engineering/corporate records
Responsibilities:
- Interface to the Control Room and field crews to expedite the incorporation of Change Requests (CR's), emergency work orders, and energization requests into the GIS system;
- Analyze and resolve issues related to OMS feeders and prepare required reports;
- Support the Distribution Design and Operations teams by entering construction drawing information into GIS and revising signed-off drawings based on mark-ups generated by the field Supervisors and Inspectors;
- Monitor, organize and prepare data prior to posting/updating - liaise with multiple work groups/ organizations and inputs from multiple information sources;
- Perform training and instruction for Engineering Draftspersons and users accessing GIS;
- Provide field verification of all discrepancies found between the GIS records and paper records to ensure the GIS system reflects the proper information.
- Assist the GIS/OMS Operations Support Group with the development and implementation of all specialized computer applications required to support the Distribution Design and Operations areas;
- Coordinate the management of the Joint-Use attachments including adding/editing records in GIS and various record systems with the Joint-Use team; Assemble and record inspection remarks, construction remarks and other relevant data that requires change to GIS;
- Maintain and update basic land base data and datasets from service providers;
- Generate data reports of GIS data as required by internal and external customers;
- Conduct communication with other departments to clarify and ensure accuracy of information to be input into GIS;
- Responsible to be aware of departmental procedures and any changes to them;
- Monitor and audit streetlight count on a daily basis, and assist the Streetlighting Department in bill compilation for the municipalities;
- Processing of ad hoc data requests and updates, transformer and switch information updates
- Securing, maintaining, publishing, and monitoring activities associated with GIS master data, ERP network distribution equipment data, customer data, and Network Records reference files/data.
- Recommend design changes and enhancements to the GIS and other Records systems as required;
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
Education & Specialized Knowledge:
- Three Year Technology graduate from a recognized Community College in an appropriate discipline or Two Year Technician Graduate with GIS and Electrical Utility experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience
Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical distribution networks;
- Demonstrated knowledge of GIS systems;
- Proficiency in the use of CAD software;
- A sound working knowledge of electrical utility drafting, standards and processes. Proficiency in Windows-based office applications including Excel, Word;
- Demonstrated experience reading and interpreting complicated construction drawings;
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills with coworkers and members of the public to achieve positive outcomes for the company.
- Ability to prioritize conflicting work demands;
- Must be organized and detail-oriented;
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Good interpersonal skills with public and staff;
- Demonstrated problem solving ability. In-depth understanding of electrical utility power distribution including the functionality of all electrical components and connectivity modes for sub-transmission and, primary, and secondary plant;
- Demonstrated proficiency with technical writing;
- Extensive knowledge and proficiency in the use of our GIS, SPF and IOM software packages
- Ability to converse at a technical level with Lines, Survey & Inspections and Engineering in order to resolve any discrepancies
- Must hold and maintain a valid Class G driver's licence.
