Job Summary:
The Architecture Department at Barnard College seeks a full-time Term Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses. This is a one-year position beginning on July 1, 2025, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.

Job Description:

Term Lecturers teach three courses per semester.

There will be a maximum of four total course preparations over the course of the year, with the assumption that two of the courses will be taught in both the fall and spring semesters.

Potential courses include: Design Futures: NYC, a workshop-based design course that introduces design practices and design thinking at an introductory level; architectural design studios required for the major or minor at the introductory or advanced level; or elective workshop-based courses. The position will include the candidate's involvement in the development of a new one-credit course focused on "making," prioritizing first-year students, and the related teaching responsibilities for that course.

Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Chair.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in a related discipline, with all requirements for the degree completed by the beginning of the appointment.
  • Prior full-time or part-time experience teaching studio-based design courses, preferably at an undergraduate level, at an accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated abilities to engage students in areas such as innovation in architectural design, research, and making; innovation in related design fields; forms of interdisciplinary architectural analyses and representation.
  • Proficiency in working with hand and digital design technologies and/or the use of new digital tools.
  • Availability to teach three days a week on Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday/Friday is required and may vary by semester.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference for a minimum of two years of teaching experience in architecture and/or related design fields

Salary: $85,500

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
