Job Summary:
The Religion Department at Barnard College seeks a full-time Term Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses. This is a two-year position beginning on July 1, 2025, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.
Job Description:
The Term Lecturer will teach three courses per semester focusing on Islam in the modern South Asian and North American contexts. The successful candidate should bring methodological diversity to the department, which currently emphasizes historical and legal studies of religion. They should be conversant in the broad questions that animate the academic study of religion, including theoretical and comparative concerns. The department is particularly interested in a colleague with expertise in curatorial studies and popular culture with a specific interest in media and digital innovation.
Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Chair or Director.

Terminal degree in a related discipline, with all requirements for the degree completed by the time of hiring offer.

Salary: $85,500
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
