Description:

MICROLED TEST ENGINEER

Hyperlume is a semiconductor company with a mission to transform data center connectivity with the world's fastest and most energy-efficient microLED-based interconnects. With AI models exceeding 1 trillion parameters and training clusters of more than 100,000 GPUs, higher levels of connectivity, driven by higher bandwidth, lower latency and lower energy consumption are needed to reach AI's full potential and solve some of the world's most challenging problems. As the world enters this new era of artificial intelligence, Hyperlume is committed to developing cutting-edge connectivity solutions in months, not years.

Hyperlume is seeking a highly skilled MicroLED Test Engineer to lead the comprehensive testing and optimization of high-speed, ultra-efficient MicroLEDs. This is a hands-on role, and the ideal candidate will have extensive experience in advanced electrical and optical testing methodologies for MicroLEDs. They will also possess a deep understanding of device characterization, optical communication protocols, and the integration of MicroLEDs with optical systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Electrical & Optical Characterization
  • Conduct Light-Current-Voltage (LIV) testing to evaluate MicroLED efficiency, performance, and reliability.
  • Measure Internal Quantum Efficiency (IQE) and External Quantum Efficiency (EQE) to assess optical properties and efficiency.
  • Perform impedance analysis using S11 and S12 parameters to evaluate electrical performance.
  • Characterize high-speed performance through 3dB bandwidth measurements for communication applications.
  • Perform photoluminescence (PL) and time-resolved PL (TRPL) measurements to analyze material quality and carrier dynamics.
  • Conduct spectral power distribution (SPD) analysis for color rendering and emission profile characterization.

Thermal and Reliability Testing
  • Measure junction temperature and thermal resistance to assess thermal performance.
  • Conduct thermal cycling, thermal shock, and humidity tests to evaluate device reliability under extreme conditions.
  • Analyze LED lifetime and degradation metrics (e.g., L70, L80) to ensure long-term performance.

Optical Communication Testing
  • Test visible light communication protocols, including On-Off Keying (OOK), Pulse-Amplitude Modulation (PAM), and Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM).
  • Optimize coupling of MicroLED output to multimode and single-mode fibers for VLC setups.
  • Evaluate modulation performance, data rate, and signal integrity for optical communication systems.

Experimental Setup & Optimization
  • Design and operate custom optical and electrical test setups for MicroLED characterization.
  • Align fibers and LEDs precisely to optimize light coupling and collection.
  • Integrate MicroLEDs with optical systems, including lens arrays and waveguides.
  • Perform beam pattern measurements and optimize emission characteristics.

Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, optimize performance, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations summarizing test results and actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine device design and fabrication based on testing outcomes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience:
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical and optical testing of LEDs, lasers, or similar photonic devices.
  • Proven track record with advanced characterization techniques, including LIV, IQE/EQE, and high-speed bandwidth testing.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency with tools for PL, TRPL, and spectral power distribution measurements.
  • Strong understanding of visible light communication protocols (OOK, PAM, OFDM).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D) in Electrical Engineer, Optics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Experience with automation tools for data collection and analysis.
  • Familiarity with advanced optical components such as waveguides, microlenses, and collimators.

HOW WE EVALUATE APPLICATIONS
  • Merit: A proven track record of excellence in electro-optical systems, with hands-on expertise in optical system design and PCB integration.
  • Excellence: A relentless drive to deliver high-quality solutions that redefine industry standards.
  • Intelligence: A deep understanding of optical communication technologies and a hunger for continuous learning and innovation.
