Summary/Objective

We are seeking a skilled and detail oriented I&E Estimator to join our team. The position of Estimator will be responsible to provide the best value (cost) in return for the required product, labor and/or services provided for instrumentation and electrical projects. This role requires a strong understanding of industry standards, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively with project teams. This position will conduct all Company business in accordance with Company policies and procedures and maintain professionalism throughout all business dealings, both internally and externally.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Analyze blueprints, RFQs, project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials and labor estimates.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of other products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Consult with clients, vendor's personnel in other departments or supervision to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost effective to produce or purchase components.
  • Prepare cost expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Prepare and maintain a director of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain tendering process and conduct negotiations.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
  • Visit site and record information about access and availability of services such as water and electricity.
  • Maximize effectiveness of the Company with the least assets required.
  • Maintain poise and focus under time constraint and adverse conditions.
  • Attend and complete trainings as required by the Company.
  • Pass all required drug/alcohol testing and background checks as required.
  • Attend bid walks and project meetings.
  • Review and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
  • Ensure estimates comply with industry standards and company policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals and bid packages.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide input on cost-related matters.

  • Supervisory Responsibility

    This position will have no supervisory responsibilities.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. May be required to operate in a petrochemical/ refinery environment with exposure to cold working conditions during winter months and hot working conditions during the summer months; exposure to noise, workers must wear protecting hearing equipment or frequently shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. In an emergency situation, exposure to hazardous chemicals may occur and the use of a respirator is required. May be required to be fit tested for the various respirators used as well as the ability to successfully pass a pulmonary function test (PFT).

    While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

    Position Type/ Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

    Travel

    Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

    Qualifications

    Required Education and Experience

    Minimum of 5 years of experience in estimating instrumentation and electrical projects. Working knowledge of the petrochemical/refinery industry and latest market conditions in related industry. Expert knowledge about various civil, structural, piping and mechanical aspects. Ability to read and understand technical drawings/blueprints. Knowledge of various safety measures to be carried out on a construction site. Knowledge of using various electrical appliances during construction work and about various building codes. Knowledge of different delivery methods: lump sum, time & material, note to exceed, and unit pricing.
