Loudoun County Department of Family Services seeks a dedicated, professional candidate for its Training & Wellness Specialist role. The successful candidate will join the Human Resources unit and the diverse department that envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. The Department supports individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self-determination.
Job Summary
The Training & Wellness Specialist will lead comprehensive employee training, development and wellness initiatives. This role focuses on fostering a supportive work environment through professional growth, wellness programs, and employee engagement strategies that align with the Department's vision of better health, safety, and well-being for all. Under the supervision of the Human Resources Program Manager, within the Human Resources & Organizational Development Program, this position will include the following key responsibilities:
Training & Development:
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field; two (2) years of related professional experience preferably with program/project management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

At times, the Department of Family Services staff must respond to community and or emergency needs caused by inclement weather, natural or human-made disasters, etc. Therefore, in these very rare instances, all DFS staff must be available to work beyond the normal workday to include nights, weekends, and holidays, as required to perform functions of the position and/or situation. In addition, you may be required to work at an alternative worksite(s) within the County to perform duties that support the operational needs of the department. The Training & Wellness Specialist will lead comprehensive employee training, development and wellness initiatives. This role focuses on fostering a supportive work environment through professional growth, wellness programs, and employee engagement strategies that align with the Department's vision of better health, safety, and well-being for all. Under the supervision of the Human Resources Program Manager, within the Human Resources & Organizational Development Program, this position will include the following key responsibilities:
Training & Development:
- Design, implement, and deliver training sessions and programs to build leadership, technical, and interpersonal skills to management and staff.
- Partner with external vendors to facilitate training programs.
- Partner with department leaders to identify skill gaps and career advancement opportunities.
- Track required training and conduct surveys to obtain feedback.
- Assist with career development paths that help workers create long-term career plans within the department
- Lead the development of wellness initiatives, including health fairs, and partnering with the County's Employee Assistance Program in providing mental health workshops.
- Collaborate with benefits teams to align wellness programs with employee support services.
- Promote a culture of well-being through department-wide initiatives that focus on collaboration, inclusion, and innovation.
- Develop strategies to enhance job satisfaction, morale, and productivity.
- Coordinate recognition and reward programs.
- Conduct surveys, feedback sessions, and pulse checks to assess employee needs and adjust programs accordingly.
- Oversee onboarding and new hire orientation (NEO) for the department.
- Facilitate new hires with getting acclimated to the department to include pulse check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days.
- Ensure all programs comply with Loudoun County policies.
- Stay updated on best practices in employee development and wellness.
