TRANSMISSION DESIGN ENGINEER II (Hybrid - La Crosse, WI)
Hiring Salary Range: $84,500 - $126,800
Compensation is determined by a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, and certifications. The actual offer may vary, reflecting the candidate's unique blend of experience, educational background, and skill level.
The Transmission Design Engineer II is responsible for performing engineering analysis and project management functions for all aspects of DPC transmission line design, under minimal supervision. As a member of a team, resolve problems that may impact Dairyland and its member cooperatives and municipals. Ensure regulatory compliance requirements for systems are met. Provide continuing technical support to other departments and Dairyland's cooperative and municipal customers.
The Impact You'll Make In This Role:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Design transmission lines, interconnections, conversions and switch installations in conformance with appropriate safety codes and design standards.
2. Establish engineering design parameters and standards, for use by Transmission Design Engineering staff and/or consultants.
3. Manage PLS-CADD model through project duration.
4. Ensure that DPC is in compliance with appropriate NESC, RUS, PSC, IUB and industry design and construction standards.
5. Prepare material lists and cost estimates for transmission line construction and relocation projects.
6. Coordinate transmission engineering activities with Planning, Survey, Right-of-Way, Substation Design, Materials Management, Field Operations, Transmission Maintenance, Transmission Construction, Operations, Purchasing, Accounting, material suppliers, consultants, contractors, cooperative and municipal customers, interconnected utilities, and regulatory agencies. Represent Dairyland's interests.
7. Assume total responsibility for special transmission line projects, including engineering, material specification and procurement, and construction guidance/inspection. Work on project teams; may take the lead on teams.
8. Evaluate alternate designs and materials.
9. Analyze and recommend solutions for transmission line maintenance problems.
10. Coordinate line design engineering software application and development.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Experience and Expertise:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Three years of progressive experience in area(s) of transmission line design engineering, structural design, foundation design, and survey. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of project estimating, knowledge of Engineering Economics, and experience as a project manager.
Skills:
Licenses and Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license and either hold a Professional Engineering Certification or have the ability to acquire one within one year of employment.
Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, bending reaching/stretching. Operate/manipulate personal computer, keyboard, mouse, calculator, telephone, general office supplies. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time while working outdoors.
Environmental Demands: Work primarily indoors with occasional outdoor work at substations and powerline right of ways. Outdoor work may occur in various weather conditions and near electrical hazards. Must be able to traverse uneven terrain.
Other Job Requirements: This position requires proactive and forward thinking, initiative, and the ability to be self-motivated and work with minimal supervision. The candidate must be able to cooperatively and effectively work with field and office staff of diverse backgrounds from multiple internal departments or external companies or agencies. Accuracy and efficiency in completing work are essential. Periodic travel within the DPC system is required, as well as additional travel to offsite locations for meetings, conferences, and seminars.

- Ability to read and understand manufacturer drawings, technical bulletins and plan and profile sheets
