Position Information
TxDOT Waco District's Transportation and Operations Office is looking for Transportation Engineer II or III to manage and coordinate plan designs for various construction projects throughout the Waco District. In this role, you will lead in the development of plans, specifications, and estimates for projects that are assigned to the Waco District. While working closely with co-workers within a team, you will work on new projects from the design stage through the letting and bid process.
Monthly Salary Range
Transportation Engineer II: (B25) $5,797.66 - $9,508.25/monthly
Transportation Engineer III: (B26) $6,377.50 - $10,785.83/monthly

Position Description
Performs complex to advanced transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Transportation Engineer II:
Experience: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Transportation Engineer III
Experience: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Position Description

Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer II:
- Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and
contracts. - Performs complex facility engineering work such as layouts, sketches, detailed plans, specifications and estimates.
- Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant
traffic control/traffic management/intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plans and projects. - Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.
- Designs, installs, maintains and repairs all traffic management computer/communication/video systems and/or traffic
signals, radios, and railroad crossing equipment - Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer III: In addition to the above
- Oversees and/or performs traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high accident locations, to warrant
traffic signals and speed zones and to determine capacity and channelization of the highways. - Provides technical assistance for the development of rural ITS/traffic management corridors.
- Responsible for Intelligent Transportation System operations.
- Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
- Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.

Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Licensed Prof Engineer*
- If performing underwater bridge inspections: Must have Open Water Diver certification.
- For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire.

- Construction, operation and maintenance of traffic control devices
- Traffic management systems operations
- Geometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction
- Traffic signal systems design, testing and maintenance operations
- Fundamentals of electrical/electronics and design procedures
- Schematic electrical wiring
- Performing basic design and drafting
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
- Crouching-bending body downward and forward by bending leg(s) and spine
- Standing-prolonged periods of time
- Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
- Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
