Position Information
The Corpus Christi District is looking for a transportation engineer who wants to be a part of a wide variety of design and planning work. This person would work with engineer assistants overseeing in-house schematic development and design and/or review H&H for both in-house and consultant projects. This position requires significant communication and interaction with a multitude of various stakeholders. You would coordinate with multiple subject matter experts, consultants, and offices within and outside of TxDOT. The person selected for this role must have excellent communication skills, organization skills, and engineering knowledge and experience, preferably in the schematic and/or hydraulic fields.
Salary Ranges
Transportation Engineer III (B26) : $76,530-$129,530
Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $84,182-$142,374
This is for a Transportation Engineer III or IV and The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs .

Position Description

Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Transportation Engineer IV
Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications:
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Essential Duties:
Transportation Engineer III
- Develops plans for the Project Managers related to resource assignments, schedules, scope, communication, quality, and procurement, while utilizing available resources and maintaining the agency's project objectives.
- Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules so that projects may be executed in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
- Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning studies.
- Performs complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of structures over waterways and summarizes the analysis in report form
- Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for
complex transportation projects. - Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant plans and projects.
- Coordinates phases of preliminary design and revisions in PS&E with districts, divisions, Administration, the FHWA, and local entities.
- May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
- Provides design engineering support for districts in project development.
- Provides technical assistance for the development of rural ITS/traffic management corridors.
- Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters.
- Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state, federal and/or international
levels. - Reviews, processes and certifies project design plans developed by consulting engineers.
- Trains engineering staff.
- Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets.
Transportation Engineer IV
In addition to the above:
- Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans,
specifications, estimates and contracts. - Performs highly advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations and transportation planning
studies. - Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant
- Develops and/or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
- Monitors consultants' progress and work quality.
- Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special
specifications or special provisions. - Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other
hydrology matters. - Represents the district/division at technical meetings and public hearings at local, state and federal levels.
- Reviews and revises schematics, PS&E and project designs.
- Reviews design plans developed by consulting engineers.
- Trains engineering staff.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and above 100 degrees for more than one hour
