By joining our Developmental Branch as a TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER SPECIALIST in Franklin County, you'll havethe opportunity to opportunity to apply your expertise to roadway and transportation projects, gain hands-onexperience in all aspects of Highway Design, and promote sustainable transportation solutions that impact thefuture of infrastructure.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Develop, review, and approve complex engineering plans for the Highway Design Division
  • Coordinate and lead complex development of engineering design programs for major engineering projects.
  • Evaluate all aspects elated to technology, procedure, or problematics of the Cabinet's design workflow.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including surveyors, planners, right of way staff, traffic engineers, and construction engineers.
  • Create and conduct training and provide guidance to transportation engineers throughout the state.
Ideal candidate will have experience in:
  • Proficiency with Openroads Designer
  • The highway design workflow, specifically KYTC.
  • Working with the KYTC Standard Drawings
  • Working with a team
  • Mentoring younger engineers

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:See Special Requirements.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Must have four years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a Professional Engineer.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which require the following of safety procedures.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
