    Primary Responsibilities

    The Transportation Safety Manager is responsible for the oversight, support, management, and administration of the transportation safety and compliance program, and thereby responsible for meeting safety and compliance goals for the commercial fleet. A successful Safety Manager is one who will, through the oversight, support, management, and administration of the Company's commercial transportation program, enable each facility to meet or exceed safety and compliance goals.     Essential Functions

    DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Manage internal DOT compliance, safety policies and procedures, auto liability and workers compensation claims for over 800 drivers and 15 locations nationally.
    • Must effectively, efficiently, and proactively manage internal DOT compliance processes, thereby eliminating any, and all failures to comply with Local, State and Federal regulations.
    • Work effectively with all 3rd Party services utilized for safety and compliance programs
    • Required to effectively develop driver training materials as assigned or necessary.
    • Development and maintenance of Transportation Safety and Compliance standard operating procedures and handbooks for professional truck drivers.
    • Ensure the proper execution and documentation of remedial training as dictated by Company policy or as assigned.
    • Accurately conduct audits of compliance documents, processes, procedures and programs to ensure compliance.
    • Safety Manager must effectively contribute to Company process, policy, and program development and standardization as assigned.
    • Effectively ensure proper execution of all Company commercial transportation programs, such as Vertical Alliance Training Platform, Idelic, Samsara, driver bonus programs, Company Orientation programs, etc.
    • Must ensure proper adherence to all internal Company standards, such as union and nonunion driver work rules, MVR adjudication, pre-hire road testing, non-DOT post-accident drug & alcohol testing, pre-hire previous experience standard, etc.
    • Manage KeHE's auto liability and workers compensation claims. This includes, but is not limited to, accident file management, ensuring compliance with company policies, communication with insurance providers, and support of litigated claims with Safety Director and Legal.
    • Ensure compliance with internal driver work rule standards. This includes but is not limited to Hours-of-Service violations, roadside enforcement, safety disciplinary action such as seatbelt use, mobile phone use, obstruction or damage to in-cab camera systems, etc.
    • Must effectively communicate with and work in conjunction with Transportation Safety Director in person, via telephone, and through use of email correspondence and Teams virtual platform.
    • Effectively manage direct reports to meet the department objectives, targets and goals.
    • Travel is required periodically at a rate of less than 10%.
    • Other duties and projects as assigned


    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
    • Experience in auto claims and workers compensation management to include subrogation
    • Must be well-versed in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products, in particular Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
    • (ELD) Managerial experience with an electronic log system, such as PeopleNet or Samsara.
    • Managerial experience with an electronic driver database and Transportation Management System.
    • Prepare reports using Transportation systems. Develop action plans using system data/analytics to drive down risk for both road accidents and workplace injuries.
    • Effectively manage direct reports. Provide clear objectives to drive results that align with company targets and vision.
    • Lead and mentor a team providing guidance, support, and development opportunities.
    • Foster a collaborative environment where team members can share ideas and best practices to enhance safety performance.
    • Lead through influence by effectively communicating safety goals and initiatives, inspiring commitment and action from all levels of the organization.
    • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to advocate for safety improvements and drive a culture of safety.

    Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, Additional Skills, Aptitude

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    • 4-year Bachelor's Degree in Business or Management is preferred, although an equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.
    • Minimum 5 years experience in commercial transportation in a role other than that of commercial driver is preferred.
    • A career track record that shows upward progression through organizational levels and involvement in transportation industry outside of organization (example: State Associations, National Private Truck Council, American Trucking Association, etc.) is beneficial.
