Responsible for providing a safe and secure learning and working environment for all students, staff, and visitors to the Sheridan School District. Advisor for all matters related to, safety and security, and emergency preparedness. Collaborates with public safety agencies, and school district departments serving Sheridan Schools.
Responsible for the overall transportation department and management of the auxiliary services office. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - Describe each of the basic functions and responsibilities of the job
Preventative Measures:
Transportation Related Duties:
Develops and monitors regular education, special education, vocational program and McKinney Vento bus routes for a safe, timely, efficient and economical transportation service; coordinates with other school districts on shared routes, maintains route book.
Responsible for driver/department dispatch daily.
Oversees scheduling of buses and drivers for athletic, activities, and field trips; contracts with outside vendors when needed. Sets up coverage for routes while driver out on activities/field trip.
Collects and compiles driver timesheets. Make sure routes and field trips hours are separated.
Does 180-day calendar for bus drivers. Creates package hours for bus drivers
Oversees the upkeep of all transportation records and documents, including driver qualification files, training, SPED high cost reimbursement, CDL requirements and student disciplinary records to comply with Federal, State and District regulations. Compiles all information for CDE Star review for both the operation and the vehicle maintenance, inspections.
Ensure that all district drivers abide by all Federal, State and local laws.
Oversee new driver training and ongoing driver training; evaluates all bus drivers; administers CDL driver tests. Maintain a primary focus on student and employee safety.
Coordinates with drivers, parents, principals and other staff in matters of student discipline and behavior problems, monitor camera system on each bus for training and incident review.
Maintains personnel records for transportation.
Assist the Chief Operations Officer in evaluating and increasing the effectiveness of the transportation department.
Serve as on-call driver to fill in for small vehicle driving routes when necessary.
Investigate and report accidents; gather and analyze data.
Assists with all aspect of the running of the Operations Office
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Makes hiring recommendations; supervises/evaluates performance; schedules, assigns and directs work.

- Support district-wide security operations and assist school administrators with ensuring school emergency preparedness to provide a safe and secure learning environment. Assist with the district-wide threat assessment process, evaluation of student safety plans, organization of disaster exercises, and readiness of district emergency teams.
- Work with site administration to provide traffic/pedestrian site evaluations including, safe bike and pedestrian crossings, traffic safety mitigation within the district.
- Develop and provide training to maintain the District's Crisis Response Team emergency response readiness.
- Coordinate incident command with police, fire, or federal emergency responders. Lead District Crisis Response Team's response to emergency situations.
- Collaborate with other agencies through networking and teamwork using resources within the District, the Community, Law Enforcement.
- Collaborate, coordinate, and act as liaison with other district
- Review, update, and provide training for the district's emergency operations plans.
- Responsible for the district's two-way radio and crisis communications systems.
- Manage district-wide security operations and assist school administrators with ensuring school security operations provide a safe and secure learning environment. Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans.
- Collaborate with SROs.
- Evaluate and recommend budgets for Security Operations to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Assist with the district-wide threat assessment process, evaluation of student safety plans, assist with disaster exercises, and readiness of district emergency teams. Assist with training of students and staff on district emergency protocols.
- Build and maintain positive relationships, communication, and collaboration across all schools in SSD.
- Develop, review, and revise district policies and internal procedures relevant to Safety, Security, and Emergency Management programs and operations in alignment with the strategic plan and Board priorities.
- Problem solve, collaborate, and communicate with others on the interpretation and implementation of Board policies and regulations as they relate to the programs, plans, and operational directives managed by Safety, Security & Emergency Management.
Preventative Measures:
- Oversee the implementation and direction of a District-wide Risk Assessment Team - a multi-disciplinary team designed to evaluate, support, and monitor student risk. Develop and manage the implementation of all Student Safety Plans referred from the District Risk Assessment Team, including students charged with high-level criminal charges.
- Consult with operations and/or school leadership on the needs, design, and installation of new and upgrades of existing security systems.
- Responsible for two-way communications including site-based communications, mass notification, and interoperability with first responders.
- Collaborate with Student Services at regular intervals to ensure student supports are implemented and managed as a result of full team risk assessments.
- Evaluate and update Emergency Response and Crisis Management plans on an annual basis.
- Manage, triage, and coordinate the handling and/or investigation of Safe2Tell anonymous tips reporting.
- Respond to schools 24/7; for emergency response and crisis management
- Participate in various district committees as needed
