Job Title: Diagnostic Imaging Technologist
Job Specialty: Ultrasound Technologist - General Abdomen/Obstetrics Small Parts
Job Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day Shift, 8 hours - varied with call rotation
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience
License: Appropriate licensure in ultrasound technology
Certifications: Relevant ultrasound technology certifications
Must-Have: Ability to interact compassionately and effectively with patients. General understanding of PACS (Picture Archive Communication System) and its function.
Job Description:
- Operate medical imaging equipment to direct high-frequency sound waves to anatomy for diagnostic purposes.
- Choose the correct settings and guide patients into positions that will offer the best view.
- Consistently obtain high-quality imaging for Radiologist interpretation.
- Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations and other special procedures as directed.
- Demonstrate adequate images of anatomy for proper diagnosis.
- Consult with radiologists for exam review prior to patient discharge.
- Provide ultrasound guidance for attending physicians in special procedures and demonstrate necessary anatomy for examination performed.
- Troubleshoot techniques related to machine malfunction and notify Clinical Engineering if needed.
- Ensure clinical history is appropriate and verify orders and patient identification using two established identifiers.
- Utilize the full operation of ultrasound units and probes to obtain adequate imaging of requested anatomy.
- Correctly label body parts and viewing planes.
- Demonstrate adequate knowledge of the PACS system and ability to utilize it.
- Competently send images after hours when required.
- Maintain competence within EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Perform high-level disinfection of endocavity probes per policy.
- Maintain accurate patient records for all procedures, ensuring patient confidentiality and adhering to all HIPAA standards.
