Your Opportunity:

The Unit Manager is responsible for the day to day unit operation including direct supervision of the unit and program staff. This role interacts with physicians, nursing staff, other unit staff, as well as other departments and interdisciplinary team members on a daily basis. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient and family care activities, coaches, mentors, motivates ad empowers clinical staff. The Labour and Delivery Unit manager is an integral member of the Women's' Health Management Team, and in collaboration with the team is responsible for developing, integrating and implementing a vison and strategy for the program that is consistent with and supportive of the Covenant Health Mission, vison and values. The Unit Manager reports directly to the Program Manager of Women's and Child Health and is accountable for the overall performance of Labour and Delivery services, working together with the other Manager support the Labour and Delivery unit and Obstetrical Operating area. This role focuses on the care provided in the Obstetrical Outpatient/assessment and triage area, the Antepartum Unit and is accountable for the Early Pregnancy Loss program and its services.

Description:

The Unit Manager is to ensure the delivery of safe patient care and provide operational leadership and decision making in support of safe patient care. To minimize negative outcomes, the Unit Manager must possess considerable clinical knowledge, skill level and leadership abilities. As the Unit Manager for the Labour and Delivery your responsibilities will also include unit leadership of all personnel including nursing and support staff; the facilitating and sustaining the learning needs of the nursing and support staff to optimize their professional and clinical development as well as; identifying budget requirements for the unit to safely meet unit and patient needs and optimize the unit workflow. The Unit Manager is responsible and accountable for providing operational leadership and decision making in support of direct patient care which includes the unit staffing, attendance management and staffing levels in a unionized environment are resolved to ensure adequate service levels are maintained. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in Nursing or higher required from an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Current Fetal Health Surveillance and Neonatal Resuscitation program certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum five years of current and active Labour and Delivery experience required. Recent Labour and Delivery Charge Nurse or Assistant Head Nurse experience required or a clinical leadership role in a health care organization of similar size, complexity, and diversity.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to participate as an effective member of and lead the inter-professional team. Good organizational skills as well as problem solving and conflict resolution skills. Exercises good judgement in decision making. Experience with Connect care (Stork) an asset.
