General Description
JOIN OUR TEAM AS A MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR!
Responsible supervisory and technical oversight for work order planning, scheduling repair and maintenance work of potable water, wastewater, biosolid residuals, and reclaimed water mechanical/electrical equipment. Emphasis of the work is on analyzing workload and employee availability, prioritizing service requests, establishing work schedule and adjusting schedules to meet work priorities. Work specializes in the development and supervision of detailed job plans, equipment specifications, labor projection costs, locations, and preventive maintenance procedures. Work will require the utilization of knowledge in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. The wide variety of equipment utilized is complex and specialized and is located at various locations, requiring adaptability and ability to work independently. Considerable independent judgment and initiative are exercised in prioritizing large volumes of repair and maintenance work generated by the CMMS.
Essential Job Functions
Supervises all equipment repair and maintenance activities performed on electrical, chemical, and mechanical equipment at all pump stations, wastewater treatment plants, water treatment plants and reclaimed water facilities or other designated utilities service areas. Develops, improves, implements, and maintains Preventive Maintenance Program as directed. Prioritizes and assigns time estimates; forecasts and schedules maintenance and repair activities, estimates costs, and submits cost/benefit analyzes for a designated utility service area. Reviews and performs contract management on contracts pertaining to maintenance and repair activities. Maintains work in progress file; updates file as work is received and completed. Trains and supervises subordinate staff. Makes field visits to check on work in progress and attends meeting with superiors to discuss schedules and workload. Maintains records to include equipment utilization, maintenance scheduling and repair costs to provide comprehensive evaluation data of work in progress and completion. Assists in preparation of technical specifications for equipment acquisition. Requisitions and maintains replacement parts in central stock to permit completion of repairs. Supervises inventory operations and the replenishing of tools and supplies. Assists with the budget preparation. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Minimum Requirements
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate using verbal, written and visual communication. Ability to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Ability to bend, climb, stoop, and squat frequently.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and five (5) years' of progressively responsible experience as a supervisor or equivalent in the water/wastewater construction/maintenance field. Associate degree highly preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
Must possess one of the following depending on area of responsibility:
FDEP Class A Wastewater Operators License
FDEP Class A Water Operators License
FDEP Class 1 Water Distribution License
FWPCOA Class A Wastewater Collection Voluntary Certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of utility management, utility operations and maintenance to include, but not limited to, wastewater/water treatment and reclaimed water mechanical/electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret ordinances, regulations, contracts, grants, and legislation as it pertains to water, wastewater and reclaimed water management.
- Knowledge of types of potable water and wastewater handling equipment (motors, valves, pumps, electronic sensors and related support equipment).
- Knowledge of how to repair and operate electric monitoring equipment, pumps, chemical feeds, etc.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of electrical, plumbing, welding, and possibly other trades.
- Knowledge of administrative policies and procedures, and contractual agreements pertaining to maintenance and equipment.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and supervise an entire plant location/operation with subordinate teams and ongoing projects related to mechanical/electrical systems maintenance, repairs, and operations.
- Ability to assign, supervise and evaluate the work of assigned personnel.
- Ability to understand technical repair diagnoses and estimate time required to complete large volume repair and maintenance work.
- Ability to estimate costs in terms of labor, supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to determine the advisability of distributing specialized repair work to outside vendors (contracted services).
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic and mechanical equipment malfunctions and repairs or adjusts equipment to maintain desired operations.
- Ability to perform a combination of skilled trade's tasks such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical, welding, and other knowledge required to maintain, repair, and improve operations.
- Ability to effectively use computers in daily activities.
